V711 Track Day Report.
« on: January 09, 2017, 02:12:29 PM »
It was something I had to do. I new the V7 was going to be down on power at a Track like Manfeild. The track has been described as three Drag Strips connected by corners. I had learned so much about riding my 1100 Sport at Manfeild so off I went with the V7.
I entered in the slower class as I  was worried about getting in the way on the straights in the Medium class that I run my 1100 in.
Off we went on the first session. The first thing that I noticed was that I was trying to rev the bike too hard and hit the limiter a few times.I then settled for running it to 6500 to near 7000 RPM. The brakes warmed up up and I started to push them hard. I had an idea that I would see the ABS light winking but I didn't notice it. I had  dropped the tyre pressures to try and get the Sport Demons to warm up. after the first session I dropped the front 2PSI and ran the rest of the day without touching the pressures. Started out at 28PSI front and 32PSI rear and finished up with only 26 PSI in the front (measured when the tyres cooled).

The V7 ran faultlessly through the day and I managed to overtake some pretty powerful bikes by out braking them. I had plenty of opportunity to pass in the corners but that is frowned upon at this class level. Small ground clearance issues but never enough to upset the stability of the Bike.
Video here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZkrDIzIVCU Make sure you hit HD as the video didn't copy to Youtube very well.  The last photo shows the left side of the tyre with Rubber build up from the track. The track was a mess from Drift cars the day before.
Cheers, voncrump.

I think you can hear something touch down in a left hander......what touches first?

The loop on the side stand touches down and the tip of the right hand footrest. Neither affected stability in any way. This little bike has impressed me in many ways and you learn so much about your bike at track days.

Thanks for that info - I have a MkI so the ground clearance will be greater, and the only time I think I will get anything to touch is as I fall off
