That helps a lot ChuckH!  Sorry, I left you off the first head count.  I was in Ouray too and it was a nice location.
Keep the info coming guys.  I would like to accommodate as many as possible in the planning, then settle on a time and location and spread the word.  The more the merrier!  Colorado has some great riding and there should be an annual event here.

I think Chama would make a great base of operations...there are numerous campgrounds and beautiful roads all around and the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad is a great day trip for those so inclined...Navajo State Park in Arboles, CO is a great campground...Pagosa Springs, Durango, Mesa Verde National Park, and the Four Corners are nearby...just my two centavos...

September would be out for me.  I've blocked out the week of June 18, so I'll try for at least a short trip then.  Denver - Silverton - Chama, maybe?

OK, for Sept. I have myself, Twowings, Dharma Bum and Testarossa interested.  By Guzzi standards, that is a pretty good crowd.  Any other interest?

- I am thinking Sept. 7-10 or 14-17. Labor day is Monday, the 4th. Thoughts?
- Cripple Creek, Ouray,  Chama or ?.  I am flexible.
- Camping and motel, or motel only?  Camping can start to get dicey by Sept. in the mountains.

I will plan to be there. prefer Sept 7-10 but can do 14-17.
Camping. BTW, most KOAs have cabins.

Either date in September would likely work for me, but the earlier date might be the best.  Colorado September weather in the mountains can push the envelope mighty quick.

There's the Datil, NM Rally August 18-20th.  It's always a good time.    Usually 50 to 60 of us Guzzisti.

Hey guys, I am getting ready to look at making some arrangements for a fall NAR, Sept. 7-10 in the Chama, NM area.  Rocker had been looking at the Rio Chama RV park, and that is my current plan for location for camping.  There are also motels in the area.  I would like to hear back from those who think they are interested in this just to get a preliminary head count.  Please weigh in again if you are interested!

Alan,

I'll put it on the calendar but at a 'less than positive' note.  Chama is 1350 miles from IN, so it's 2 1/2 days each way, travel time.  And I've got the Michigan and Ontario rallies the last two weekends in August plus the Kentucky Rally the fourth weekend in September already on the schedule.  Not looking too good.

I always knew I'd get old.  How fast it happened was a bit of a surprise, though.

Resurecting this.  I have contacted the Rio Chama RV Park that was the original planned destination for June.  They have indicated that they are nearly booked in early September and will not be able to accomodate us.  If anyone has a suggestion for an alternative place near Chama let me know.  I am now thinking of looking into plan B, which is Ouray at the KOA there where Rocker arranged a nice NAR a few years ago.  Feedback welcomed.

The other option is to just default to the GRIN Datil Rally hosted by Matt Forslund around the weekend of August 20.  I have been to this several times and there is good riding in the area.  It also tends to draw a good gathering.

I'm still up for something at that time.  Datil won't work for me this year, conflicts with my newest granddaughters Birthday!

Those New Mexico parks looks very nice.

There is a state park north of Ouray, Ridgeway state Park.  I've camped there and at the KOA. Ridgeway is usually booked.  I like the wide open view of the New Mexico parks.

Thanks for the suggestions Twowings.  As the volunteer organizer (of this completely disorganized event), my concern with State Parks and forest service campgrounds and the like:

Are there showers, nearby restaurants, gas, motels for those who don't want to camp, etc.?

Can we get a cluster of sites together like we were able to do at Ouray a few years ago?

Is there a central place we can gather, like a large picnic shelter or onsite restaurant like there is at Datil and Ouray?

That said, if Ouray KOA doesn't get back to me (they are currently closed), these are still open options.

Navajo State Park is 1/4 mile from food, gas, hotels, & liquor....
Heron Lake State Park is a little more remote...

Vista Del Rio Lodge in Chama is biker-friendly....

that's all I know

 :bike-037:  Attention fellow NAR ers....

The gathering is set for the Ouray KOA, Sept. 7-10 (the nights of  9/7-9/9).  The proprietress, Deborah, will take your reservation at 970-216-4009.  They have both cabins and tent sites available.  TELL HER YOU ARE WITH THE MOTO GUZZI GROUP, and she will put us together as best she can.  She recommended making a reservation soon as they are already booking up for Sept.
I have rented a two person cabin and will need a roommate if anyone wants a cabin.  But I will try to hold  the empty slot for awhile to accommodate a late comer.  Those of you who have been here before know that there is great riding and some of Colorados best scenery in the area.  Spread the word and I look forward to seeing many of you there!  Here is their info, but call the number above if you are calling soon, as they are currently closed.
