Zigolo???Why did I buy this project???
« on: June 25, 2017, 11:23:49 AM »
Life is good, at least I thought having a Norge & Quota was all I needed. Not so, as I had the opportunity to purchase a rough 196??? vintage Zigolo. The 3 person team in quiet  Northern Michigan will have a nice winter getting this Guzzi back in running condition.
I will be posting requests for help in obtaining parts, most likely from Italy as I'm not confident that much is available in America.
This is the machine now on the stand.  Randy

Are you doing a full restoration or to running shape with buffing out the paint?  Should extend your riding season with the leg guards.

The current plan is to get the rolling chassis cleaned. blasted, powered coated, the wheels re-laced powder coated rims, basically get it standing on its wheels and center stand. Then start on the engine, it needs a piston, pin and bored to the 1st over size. I have the parts & shop manuals, but as they are in Italian, time will be spent on translation.......A ny volunteers?

A suggestion, anyway - on your PC, make sure you have the Italian language packs installed (but still have English set as your default language). Then use a scanner to scan the manuals and use optical character recognition on the PDFs your scanning software creates. Finally, use Google Translate to get the information you need. It won't be perfect, but you can likely figure out where it stumbles.

Keep us posted. The Zigolo should have been my first Guzzi. I've always had a special place in my heart for it.

Cuz you can't wait to sit back and look at a perfect red paint job with those flowing body panels next to polished aluminum and chrome...as you pour whiskeys for you friends in the garage on a bitter winter day...while looking at maps...

I found the Zigolo's backbone. Wasn't sure it had one, but under all of the beautifully sculptured body work, here's the proof

Next step off to the sandblaster & powder coat for some fresh red coating. I have a full gasket set for the engine coming from TLM, they had 1 set. Next is rims , remove rust and some chrome for coating black. then re-spoke with new SS pieces. Many pieces also scheduled for cleaning & powder coating.
Remaining issues is making contact with someone in Italy to help buy and send parts to me. Any help would be appreciated. There are many components on eBay it.

Check out Gawa-Guzzi in Germany. He has a lot of parts for older Guzzi's. He's an honest person but you have to wire transfer money first. I've ordered twice from him and wouldn't hesitate to order again. He has original and copied manuals.

I would have bought it too. That`s really cool and looks like a fun project!  Here`s a vid on a nice one.  Hope to see yours like this someday.
