Big news for flat track racing
« on: November 01, 2018, 02:33:27 PM »
Ricky Howerton and Bryan Smith have reunited with Crosley racing to field a Kawasaki for 2019 . Remember , Howerton knows how to make the Kawasaki go , and Smith likes the Kawasaki . The new design is clean sheet , this could be very interesting .

I guess that Indian is pairing down the wrecking crew now that they've sold bikes to 2/3 of the field?

I hope they can make the Kaw run.

Dusty, this is the Howerton family in Indianapolis that was originally from Tulsa?  I remember seeing Jackie run supermodifieds in OKC on Friday nights.  Those Tulsa guys would run pretty strong down here.

Man , that must gave been ages ago , but yes , Ricky is Jackie's boy . He has become mostly a race tuner , and now focuses on dirt track motorbikes . Same guy who built Smith's bikes before .

The team he had originally with the Kawasaki is the same team he had with Indian.  And, that's the team that will now field a Kawasaki, once more.  So, it's not as if the old gang is getting together and reuniting; they were never apart.

Smith was never all that comfortable on the Indian.  I'm looking for great things next year from him.  What was interesting is that it was Bryan's success on the Kawasaki that led many teams to move to that brand, but none of them had anywhere near the success that Brian did.  It was never the Kawasaki that was so good (compared to the XR750), it was always Bryan.

What Kawasaki platform? The parallel twin?

A photograph of that bike with the number-1 plate is not common.  After Bryan won the championship, he moved to Indian, and tht was the bike that raced the next year with the number-1 plate.

The engine is based on a Kawasaki 650 Twin , the only production parts are the crankcase , cylinder and head castings . A certain very famous tuner tried to claim he could build a Kawasaki dirt tracker for a couple of grand , turns out he was full of poop
