Wooster, OH All Seasons going, going...
« on: December 21, 2018, 02:18:03 PM »
Here's a snippet of the email I recieved from Piaggio concerning All Seasons Cycle in Wooster, OH.

.....concern about the dealer in Wooster, OH.  Yes, unfortunately they are no longer an authorized dealer for Moto Guzzi and at this time we are looking for a replacement.  As soon as a new dealer in this area is available it will be posted on our website.

Great.

It appears that someone bought them out and is moving the shop up to Lodi, OH.  Minus Moto Guzzi.

Yeah, lucky me I had a deposit there for the V85.  Fortunately Steve was a tremendous help reaching out to Piaggio to transfer it to Matthews, NC.  I will miss them.

That's too bad, only went there once while visiting my brother in Ohio but they seemed like a good dealer.

Probably your own garage and a Moto Guzzi Shop Manual.  That's not all bad.  I've been riding my 1200 Sport since 2010.  Wrenching has been minimal.  We're at 67,000 miles to date.  I would rather have had a dealer for some of it, but these older Guzzis are like a Gravely tractor, not too difficult to work on.

Gravely Tractors were originally a West Virginia product, built in the small town of Dunbar, West Virginia.  We lived on 3 - 4 acres, most of which was grass, but when I was 14 or 15 years old, I told my mom I could clear the top of the hill if we had a Gravely with a rotary blade.

Since they were built less than 20 minutes  from where we lived, it was off to the factory ...... where they also rebuilt used Gravelys and sold them through a factory store at a substantial discount.  These things were like Guzzi iron, infinitely rebuildable.

What a beast!  I ordered ours with dual wheels on the single axle, and specified a 30" rotary blade.  The dual wheels were perfect for West Virginia's lopsided terrain.  The large single cylinder engine usually started on first pull, but it was a heavy sucker to pull through. The  Fairbanks Morse magneto must have thrown a good spark!  No recoil starter .... the belt was leather, which was wrapped around an external pulley.

Wow.  Memories from 1958 ..... 60 years ago!

And so they go.  Thankfully, new dealers do spring up but I can't imagine how any Guzzi seller stays in business.  It's nearly a joke.

I'm tapping out on a new Guzzi. *Unless the V85 Stradale is spectacular.
I can always keep a Guzzi in my garage by tapping into the healthy market of old Norges and Brevas.   Maybe even satisfy my urge to turn a late model Norge into a Breva GT.  I can see turning one of the white Norges into a naked.
-And upon further investigation, Winchester Motorsports would be my new closest Guzzi dealer - 4 hours!  Unless they're gone also.  I can't seem to bring up their website.

*possible new bike choices for future purchase:
Fun and inexpensive would be the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
Practical and two-up touring worthy would be the Yamaha Tracer 900.

Upon further FURTHER investigation, I've located a shop in Accident, MD.  I've purchased aprilia goodies there previously. I didn't know they carried Guzzi.  It's only a 2.5 hour drive.

Checked it on Google Map.  Not all that bad, from Weirton to Accident.

A friend and I visited the shop in Accident, MD (Xtreme Powersports, https://www.xps-usa.com/) this past summer. Nice people there, and more Moto Guzzis than I have ever seen together in a showroom (of course, my experience is limited . . .)

And there's a really nice diner next door.

Not a bad trip once we get through "Little" Washington, PA.  It's down 79 and onto 68 for a bit.  The shop isn't too far of the interstate.

I believe I've done the trip in 2 hours flat.
Now here's the rub:  The tech might have been having a busy time when they/he did my Capo valves waaaay back.  A few bolts left off (or finger tight) on fairing and involved parts.  I was getting the aprilia serviced while it looked like it was a know busy time for watercraft...which they deal in also.   So it may have been a situation with too much going on with too little bike techs available.

But anyway...
Nice people down there.  The sales guy was pretty informative on their sales mission and left me with a feeling they knew how to hold onto the Brands.  I'd stop down again for sure....heck they even deal with Beta dirt-bikes. Italian!

You've got a Convert you'd like to sell? I'm kinda sorta looking for one to use as a sidecar tug alongside my '70 Ambo.
'70 Ambo, w/ International (I think) sidecar, '63 Triumph TR4, '67 Datsun 1600, '81 DeLorean, '53 Packard, '85 Jag XJS, '97 Pontiac Firebird, '87 Pontiac Fiero. Most of which are half-functional derelicts.

Big plus 1 here, but I too worry how long Enzo can keep it going.  A very long time, I hope but I’ve seen it time and time and time again where it is just so ridiculously hard to keep a Guzzi focused shop going.  I’ve seen committed, enthusiast dealers find ways to make it work for an extra year or two but then succumb to the fact that damn near nobody buys these bikes.  It’s a wonderfully unique, but forever small club.

Heard from a friend who bought his V7 racer from Cleveland Moto & had it serviced over the years by them.

Apparently they stopped carrying Moto Guzzi cos Piaggio was trying to get them to carry too many bikes on the floor for their operation.
They will continue to service Moto Guzzi though, was my understanding. Of course I can't find the e-mail now, but that's the jist of it.

Still good guys but doing what they need to to stay afloat.

I would wonder if, in their case, not an official dealer if ......... they could perform warranty work?  Would probably be fine for out of warranty repairs if they were able to buy parts at a discount.

No, Phil would not perform warranty work unless someone would be willing to pay for it themselves. Cleveland Moto would have no recourse to get paid by Guzzi.
