NGC. Who’s doing what for Thanksgiving?
« on: November 08, 2021, 11:20:18 AM »
My wife will probably be out of state for the holiday for a few weeks so I’m going to my cabin (Camp Yeti) which is an old rustic place and I’m cooking steaks potatoes etc etc for a couple of others that won’t can’t be with family.  Wishing everyone a happy thanksgiving in a couple of weeks!

That cabin looks cozy!! Where is that in Tennessee?  Cool digs!  Invite a friend and WHOOP IT UP!!
:thumb:   :boozing:

We are going out this year, with a friend, to a local restaurant for the traditional "Turkey-Distention" dinner! (aka only to be "gassy & bloated" afterwards!!) :thumb:  :boozing:

We'll be having the Schurke family Thanksgiving at the church as usual. Once again I've been commissioned to smoke the bird on the BGE. I'll probably brine the turkey with kosher salt and some ground ginger root and smoke in apple wood. I rarely have leftovers

Oh, thanks for the reminder, I just ordered a fresh non frozen turkey  :food: :food: :food: :food: :food:

I'll be cooking the traditional feast for family and our Japanese exchange student who's coming home with daughter from college for the holidays.  She is excited to do the "real" American holiday.  Big turkey, our favorite Cade's Cove ham from Lenoir City, TN, dressing from homemade bread, sweet potatoes, some of our own muscadine wine, pies including Apple, pumpkin, maybe cherry and/or pecan,   I'm just going to have fun in the kitchen and cook until everybody leaves.

At Christmas, it will be the full PA Dutch experience for Miku- my mother-in-law's pigs stomach, shoo fly pie, Lebanon Bologna with cabbage and potatoes, corn pie.. Probably at least one trip to shady maple smorgasbord and Yoders and Conestoga Pizza and I think 1-2 better Japanese/Korean restaurants that I'm supposed to try.

Eating season has arrived!

Most of the family will be at our daughter's house in the Buffalo NY area..I can no longer eat traditional holiday foods.... No roast turkey, no ham or pot roast or any grilled food ,no burgers, no raw veggies other than onions, no fruit, no rolls etc....Thanksgiving for me will be mashed potatoes, a baloney sandwich on thin bread and mixed nuts...and some pie, cake ice cream...But I am thankful to be alive...

Just the wife and I. Beef Wellington, garlic mashed potatoes with gravy and some asparagus with bacon, shallots and regianno cheese and a bit of red wine.

We've already had Thanksgiving in Canada. But looking at the delicious comments, I want to do it again! I did a traditional turkey and stuffing , my wife did all the fabulous sides and I baked my Rum Apple Pie with Rum sauce. You know, with rum.    It was our first family get together in a long time with our three adult kids and S.O.s.

Enjoy your time at the cabin Bob.  Do you bring all the pets, or leave bug at home?

I will probably get a turkey dinner at Bates House of Turkey in Greenville, AL on my way home next Friday.

I bring the dogs but leave the cat at home with plenty of food and water.  She guards the house.  Lol!  Have a nice holiday!

The old linoleum is getting pretty bare so I'll paint it and then leave the dog in to make some paw prints. Need to nail up some tar paper that came loose from the last storm. If I get ambitious I might take the cardboard out of the busted winder and put in plastic from an old windshield. Time to get rid of the ratty sofa off the front porch. Goodwill sometimes has some that are in pretty good shape. Would y'all get rid of the engine that is hanging by a chain from the tree in the front yard? I think it looks cool.

For food will depend on if I catch fish, trap a beaver, shoot some pigeons, kill a wild hog or shoot a deer. Roasted squirrel is another option.

Go with the roasted squirrel.  Don’t get rid of the engine hanging from the tree.  Here in Tennessee that’s a work of art!
