Considering this for a new winter shield
« on: December 28, 2018, 08:27:00 PM »
Looks like this would be nice for Olivia. Four point mount and wind protection for the hands.

https://www.cyclegear.com/parts/givi-a31-universal-airstar-windscreen

Just need something a bit bigger the the Dart screen I have now for winter.
Plus it's a Givi!!

Opinions?

Ride safe and often...

Jeff

It says the a31 is 19.5" high. Is that from the top of the headlight center or the total height? I think some companies measure differently.
I just bought a shield for my Breva 750 to replace the little cafe fairing that is 17" high from the headlight center. It is a big improvement .
But it would need to be another 2-3" taller to make the wind go over my helmet. I got a National Cycle F15.

National Cycle makes a couple of four-point models with a quick-detach option. I highly recommend that for a shield that will be used only part-time.

Put a larger Givi windscreen on my B-1100, and it is a quality piece of equipment.
I topped it off with an adjustable little clear wind deflector on the top, and it works very well.

The down side to Givi in my experience:

1) replacement parts are very difficult to source.  You can buy an entire installation kit, but that's overkill when I am just missing 2 pieces that vibrated off.
2) The 4 point mounting system is great for adjustability. Great.  However, if you are OCD, anal, or just look for something to fix, it is very fiddley to get 100%
centered, all gaps the same, etc.  ( of course, no one notices, but I do, and it drove me nuts. Finaly got it right-enough.)

Thanks for all the replies!!

Decided on going wth the Givi..just thought  it would serve my purpose better
than the National Cycle.

Will post picks when installed. Ken, will try to be not so anal to get it perfect!!

I think you made a good choice provided it's high enough for you. But then again, what do I know :boozing:. I have a Slipstreamer Turbo that is close to the Givi on my R75 and National Cycle HD's on my Loops.

Ugliest and absolute best windshields, stock or aftermarket, have always been Madstad models.  Step sisters every one of them but damn can they cook.   :boozing: :thumb:

I decided the Dart I had on my V7III was too small, so I got a Givi A34, which is similar to the one shown in the original post but without the hand protection. I think it looks reasonably good on the bike--unfortunately, the first pic isn't very good--there's snow here, so I don't want to take the bike out of the garage just to shoot a picture. With the four point mounts, it is very secure, but a little tedious to mount. Here are some pics that may help you mount one.

Got the shield mounted today and went for a 20 mile or so ride.

Very impressed!!

No buffeting and the mounts are easy to adjust. A really great universal shield
that does fit a Guzzi!

Will be a great fall/winter shield.

Ride safe and often,

Jeff

That doesn't look bad at all. The smoke color makes it. I don't think clear would have looked nearly as good.

Where does the wind hit you now?  I have found that shields high enough to wear an open face helmet also introduce a lot of buffeting.  I have not felt the need for a shield on the V7, but I definitely can't tolerate cooler temps on that bike without putting on enough gear that I get hot when stopped.

By using the "hold hand up in the Windstream" method of checking airflow seems that the wind skims over the top of my full face helmet. Don't have any issues with buffeting. I have a Bell helmet, which I have never liked because of wind noise and while it is slightly quieter with this shield still isn't up to my liking. Will be replacing the Bell as soon as I can. Earplugs have made it tolerable...of course I use earplugs the majority of the time.

Rode home in the rain after work today and was impressed with the coverage, especially around the hands. Seems that most of the rain was carried off in the airflow...of course as long as you are moving!!!

All in all happy with my first impression. Will know more after using for more miles.

Ride safe and often,

Jeff

If you're still looking National Cycle Plexistar II or III.  The II comes down to the turn signals.  The III comes down to the height of the crash bars.  They work well and will keep you dry and out of the wind.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉
