:bike-037: Me and a freind rode to Brentwood Ar. in search of a Moto Guzzi. but it was gone, :cry:sold to a Dentist that will take good care of it. The Ozarks are alive with motorcycles today. It was a great day to ride in the mid 80s. old cb750 hates lugging...my old seat is too hard for long trips! sore butt syndrome!
-
"Did you ride your bike today?"
Nope. Haven't been able to ride since October...
-
Yes! Yesterday it hit 80F in Colorado. The first time in history the temp has been above 71 (the old record for the MONTH) around here in February. Today it is a bit cooler which is almost welcome. The crocuses are blooming and spring is in the air!
OK, sorry fellow CO riders. The jinx is on....

yeah, 2 of my friends and I rode about a hour to New Orleans, around the north shore, back to French Quarter, Stopped by Camillas for some breakfast and rode the river road back to Baton Rouge.
Not a fan of New Orleans, never have been. Crowded, roads are really bad. cracked asphalt, holes, and uneven, and generally in poor shape in the residential areas and in the French Quarter especially. But, a lot of people do love the area, I just don't get it, but that's why I choose not to live there.
At any rate, it was a good 160 miles round trip. I got the bulk of the comments when we parked at the restaurant to go eat. One drives a harley abcd glide of some kind. Nice machine, pretty, makes nice sounds, but geez its big.
other guy rides that BMW cruiser bike from a few years back. pull back bars, paralever front suspension, lots of chrome, boxer twin.
We ride at least once a month, usually on Saturday or Sunday after church. the harley guy and I have made several all day rides, 300+ miles, over the years. WE were talking its time to ride the mini Grand Canyon in Mississippi in a couple of weeks.

You haven't been able to ride since October IN NORTH CAROLINA?

Great ride along the French Broad River today. Found my ideal road, will be back.

41*C here.
The only thing I rode was the inflatable crocodile!

I ride my bike every day, except if it's very cold or raining, so probably about 350 days/year. 20 miles a day on the Litespeed keeps me feeling young.
-
Yep. I ride virtually every day.
-
Yes, took an hour long ride. Was 65 degrees F in northern Kentucky today. The forecast for next weekend looks great, too. We have hardly had a winter yet this year.
-
Yes, it was around 65 in SW Ohio today.
-
Short ride today but planning to ride all day tomorrow. Anyone heading to the hills in NC or VA?
-
Yes,
65F here in Las Vegas.
The big Rune haven't been out in a bit. Time to stretch those fat legs.

Asheville has been called North Carolina's 'cesspool of sin...' but the French Broad is just a river.
-
No, but I had the key on getting some raw ecu logging.
-
Heck yeah.
it was 87 today. After the plumber fixed the broken faucet from the winter, I was on the road.

I hope the heat helps Bev's closet dry out.

Nope.
Rode to work Wednesday - fantastic ride home.
Then we got this on Thursday.

Thought about it. Does that count? 60 here today in central Indiana, sun shining, very little wind, salt still all over the roads. Thought, "Naa. It would really be a pain to clean up." I'm old. Sue me..

We're getting over the drought in northern CA .
Soon after the picture was taken it started raining and didn't quit for over a week , day before yesterday .
Today first sunny day in a long time , but we have lots of flooding .

Did a lunch ride with the family today. Went to have BBQ at Smokin' Joes in Davis, Ok. The restaurant was very busy and a lot of bikes out and about. We rode about 270 miles of non-direct route. Left at 11:00 and got back at 5:00. I was on my GS, oldest son on his Street Triple R, youngest son on his (mine actually) CBR600RR, and wife on her Breva 750 (Guzzi content). Temps in the 80s! Great day to ride to eat. :food:
-
It was a very nice day near Seattle. Mid-40s and dry, so I fired up 4 out of 5 and took them each on a 15 mile exercise.
Sweet Leaf (1200Sport) was the most eager, but Baba Oreilly (1980 SP in LeMans drag) with 36mm DelOrtos and Bubs made me smile the most.
Elizabeth Reed (73 Eldo) was mild tempered with no drama and Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy (85 Cal II with 200K on the clock) did what it does. Took me to the liquor store for a case of PER!
Life is good.

Low 80's in mid-February..but of course!
-
I'm basking, I tell, you, BASKING!.
The temperature in Sitka never got to 83 in the thirty years I lived there. Highest recorded was 88 back in 1976. Now that's some kind of hot. :coffee:
OTOH, sub-zero temps have never been recorded there either. If you were the weatherman and always said it is 41 and raining, you'd be pretty accurate.

First chore of the morning, fix the Garage Door.
Only took me 1/2 and hour, must be my prior experience on the other door.
Then clear the gutter for leaves for the third time this year, clean up the garage some.
A few of many chores done so I took the little V50 out for another test ride. Corrected ignition is good, fueling is much better (must raise idle for stops), new front springs really help - (must deal with the far to heavy rear springs). Now awaiting Colortune to verify and slightly adjust fueling.
Finally I took the V11 Lemans Rosso Corsa out for a little 40 mile run. Lots of bikes out, Folsom-Salmon Falls Road - Pilot hill - Don Pedro Road - Highway 49 to Lotus and down Green Valley back to Folsom. Lots of water here in California, rainfall around 200% normal, the south fork of the American reminded of the Dechutes near White Horse.

I need to get the Lemans on a Dyno and have them correct the fueling during decel. It's not bad just annoying.
-
Yes. Put a little fuel system cleaner in both bikes and had a go. Amazing what a little saddle time will do for the 'tude.
-
No, too busy but I'll be up at sparrow fart tomorrow, looking forward to a ride out to Maple Ridge for coffee with the boys.

Not a good day to ride in north jersey.hail, rain, sleet, snow this morning into mid afternoon.the plows just came by our house....maybe later into the week. :boozing:

Saw scores of bikes while driving around doing errands.
Got back home, figured I'd roll the bikes out and at least fire them up. Good day to get them cleaned up a bit if nothing else.
I hear bikes buzzing by probably every 2-3 minutes.
Bikes fire up with nary a complaint nor hesitation.
Roll one back in, still undecided on whether or not to grab the stool and rags for the other.
Then I get a whiff of that "motorcycle smell" - that unique combination of fuel, exhaust, rubber and what, plastic?
Done deal. Gear on. Off we go for an hour or so.
Lots of good smells out in the world - that's spring cooking somewhere out there.
It was a good call.
-
Beautiful day here in LA! Only 3rd time on my new Eldo - 3 hours 68-75 deg. Went from the valley up Mulholland west past a house I used to own then down to PCH and the ocean. Back Malibu Canyon to home. Pretty windy though.

My wife and I rode the Norge to and from a dinner party tonight. It was dark and cold (about 45 degrees), but it was a beautiful ride through farm country.
-
200 miles on the new 1200 engine. With the torque converter it does about 5800rpm at 80mph.. The engine will quite comfortably go faster. The trike however will comfortably, not. low 70s and overcast/low humidity. Perfect riding weather.
-
I ride virtually every day to and from business appointments.
This is what I rode today to reach my boss house and then drive away to another town.
And during winter months they also install waterproof leg shields.
3-wheeled lazy fat moped + damp and unconfortable canvas strapped around my legs = very bad riding morning today

Rode about a total of about 10 miles round trip to the barber shop on the Bassa. Windy as hell, but about 50 degrees. Great haircut on my few remaining hairs by the Korean lady barber who has been my go to for years, but damned if she could trim a beard evenly if her life depended on it. Looks like I will have to "Grizzly Adams" it for a couple of weeks and start over.
-
Yep 42F and clear roads, sure ran good!!
-
Yes. As usual for a Monday, to work. When the traffics not bad, it's a nice 20 mile ride each way. The Ambo got to go today. Tomorrow maybe the Eldo. Or the Ambo again, need to check the fuel mileage.

77 degrees and it seemed like every Harley within a 100 mile radius drove thru town. I rode two bikes, they needed the exercise.
-
I rode the Piaggio today. The Vintage is waiting on a battery and the Triumph's petcock is leaking...
-
We'll ride out Saturday to Altavista VA to the "Taste of Italy" restaurant at 12:30 for the monthly 3rd Saturday SW VA Guzzi Lunch ... but it's just cold and gray and unpleasant today, so I'll get the work done that I would have done on Saturday and have the day "off" .....

Got a text from my wife to say my bro-in-law has just got himself a new to him 1400 Suzuki Intruder. Had to haul out the Mighty Breva to go and check it out. looks a tidy bike (2003) with 22,000 miles on the clock.
I sense a wee ride coming up today. It is a lot bigger than most of his previous bikes so I think he would like to go with someone who is not going to pressure him in to going faster than his understanding of the bike would be.

I'd like to formally request a moratorium on the posting of this photo. It's causing me great distress and undue time spent counting pennies and determining if I can in fact forego other luxuries, such as food, water, electricity...stuff like that.

Kim has decided to pay an outrageous change fee to Delta and has extended her stay in Honolulu. That means I've got another free shot this weekend, and it looks like the weather is going to cooperate again, so...

Hi,
Connecticut based rider here.
Rode ~60 miles on Saturday Feb 11. Temp was in the 40's.
Planning on riding to/from work tomorrow - Wednesday Feb 15. Morning temp will be ~30. Afternoon temp will be ~40.
Enjoying the longer days.

It had 10 miles on it the pic.. Has 85 now. It's really my other little street bike.. Got 80mpg on it's first trip..
It's very simple like my Guzzi, and why it appeals to me so much..

I took off this afternoon and rode 100 miles to ride for 8 or 10 good curves.
:whip2: Some of it on-ramps.

I can relate big time. Ride 100 miles just to find some hilly corners (NOT mountains just some tiny rises with some slightly banked turns. Some times all you can get are on and off ramps!!

A bit different here in western NC! The only time I've ever dropped a bike was a year ago off of the driveway of a house we were renting. It was a blind driveway with a steep incline to the road and sharp camber which meant you got a head of steam up the driveway then looked for traffic left/right then decided whether to stop or continue into the road. All's well until I'm heading up at the right speed when a cat crossed in front of me slowing my approach, and then a car came by preventing me from accelerating through. Had to slow, leaned over, mid incline, failed to keep my rpm up enough, stalled the bike and the slow drop commenced including a toss from the bike of yours truly down the hill on the side of the driveway. Woke my older daughter up who was visiting to help me right the bike and get it back on the driveway, and other than a scuff on the pannier, good as new. Mountains are a blessing, but sometimes a mixed blessing. Several lessons learned, but I might have made the save if I had been feathering the clutch with much higher rpm. Glad I had full gear including leather overpants, would have banged my head and cut up my leg adding injury to insult. Coming from the hills and small mountains of northern Appalachia to the more ferocious inclines of the southern Appalachians has certainly increased my respect for what Newton's gravity can do if you don't line things up just right. Confession of riding sins over for the day.

Ride one of them to work every day; if there is no rain - DfW commuter traffic is bad, with rain it is insane.

Yes. The Mighty Scura and the Aero Lario. Life is good..

I rode the bicycle 20 miles and got home to find out that a customer paid for an order, which is a good reason to go for a ride on the Mille to the Post Office, taking the long way home, of course. Monday is a Postal holiday, so I couldn't let the box sit around 'till Tuesday, after all.
-
Swapped ECU's, reset fuelbox, tryout my settings, perfect!! Blew the freaking cobbs out of the EV. If you don't ride for a bit then you have to get it all out as they say.

Yep, Fay and I rode to the 3rd Saturday Guzzi Lunch.
11 of us there, all like-minded folks in all the ways that matter. A Beemer, a Wee-Strom, an old Yammie 1100 four, a KLR, and a bunch of Guzzis from an Eldorado to a carb Sport.
We took the back roads home. Felt good to be out on a real trip again, not just keeping the oil circulating ... !

I actually rode two of my three Guzzi's today. It was in the mid-70's here in mid/south TN so I was off on the hunt in the area to spot another Guzzi. Came back empty handed  So off the EV and on to the Breva 1100 to scout some more! Another day like today the Lemans IV will have to come out of her nest!
-
340 miles today.
First to Ingram's Diner in Maryland to eat bacon and eggs with other Guzzista's and then over/down/over/down the Pennsylvania mountains.
-
been riding the last few days. Probably 200 miles puttering around the last 3 days. Always some nice days in Feb. Also smoked a chuck roast....very good.
There was a bike show at the Fairgrounds, knew several folks with bikes there, saved $15 and didn't attend and rode instead (Guzzi content )
-
Only 50mi never got past turd gear.
-
Yes! It was sunny and in the low 60's today in southern Wisconsin! I took my Griso out for a 50-mile spin in the driftless region.
Mid-February is a bit unusual for this around here.
Moto
By the way, I noticed condensation on the underside of the dashboard's clear cover at the end of my ride, a classic terrarium symptom of the sun warming up the works below while the air kept the cover cool. This happened even though my bike was inside all winter, and even though I'd cycled the air through the desiccant at least once during that period.
So I ran the desiccating pump again when I got home. It continues to seem like coating the dashboard PCB should be more effective than my desiccant setup in the long run.
A bit off-topic, but I didn't want to revive the old Griso dash moisture thread just for this report.

Yes.
I actually didn't ride yesterday (Saturday) but went out with a good neighbor and did some clay pigeon busting. Great time!
However, today was a different story. Our Feb temps were in the mid 50s (F) today, it was sunny, which helped.
So, the old R100GS sputtered to a start fairly quickly, and we were off to an 85-90 mile ride ..... nothing too exciting, just pleasant. The old Beemer did what she always does ........ delivers a satisfying ride, with the old flat twin sounding and running like a well-balanced turbine. She's a good old bike that just keeps on givvin', even after 150,000 miles. I'm the original owner. Trouble free? No. But any issues were easily remedied.
Bob
BTW ... tomorrow's weather looks almost as nice as todays .... so, we'll probably do a repeat.
I'd have taken the Guzzi, but she needs a new oil pressure sensor and engine temperature sensor. I believe the ECU must be getting readings several degrees below actual, causing some issues.
Bob
-
I actually rode about 5 miles around town today (small town!) It felt good. The battery was down in my Breva so I took it out and put it on a charger. I took my Shiver. I know it's not a Guzzi but it's close.

Not today.

Unfortunetly it was raining this morning when I left for work. So headed to work in the truck. Shoulda known better, the rain was a heavy drizzel and almost stopped when I got to work.
Tomorrow should be one of the Loops. The EV is still laid up until the timing chain tansioner shows up at the door. Then assemble and test before I ride it to work.

Yes.
Cycle speedo arrived at the son's work; the "parts bike" mini chopper did not have one. Registered 50cc machines don't have need a warrant but it must be of Wof standard. As it is quite rorty I think it may be circumspect to have it up there, as the Grandson is bound to give it heaps. Gave me a good excuse to go for a ride, as if one needs an excuse!.

Yes, FINALLY. Clear weather and no need to haul cargo finally arrived on the same day. Twas fun to go from seventy to a hundred in fourth to move out of a collapsing pocket and move up into a big open space all my own for most of my commute. Temps in the fifties in the morning and the bike loves it.
-
Yep. Rode little over 300 miles in the last two days.

Got to 55 degrees here in Toronto over the week end. Took the girl out of her winter slumber for a ride in the country side. Will be riding her to work this week as the mild temperatures will stay with us for a few days. Feels good to ride again!.

That DOES look like a lot of fun to ride. Those bars are one style that I've never tried for any distance. Some people ride across the country with them; they look effective, but I have no idea what they'd feel like on a long trip into the wind ....

60 degrees F today, usually February is the coldest month with below zero....Took a ride on the 96 Ducati 900 M...The roads are dirty with ashes, sand, and whatever left over from the deicing chemicals...Treache rous turns and intersections...but I still managed to exceed the posted speed limit at ever opportunity...
I dragged out the double engine LSR lump for some air. My wife told me to pose with the bike, then asked why I stodgy in front of scrap steel pile.....Still waiting for a piston(s) to replace the one that got hammered....just over two months to go before race season starts...

Good for you Nick , always enjoy your scenic posts.
Griso may come out of hibernation tomorrow. 58 degrees f in the forecast. Not bad for February` in Maine. :thumb:

First ride of the season, about 40 miles total. Sure felt good , come on spring! Griso ran great, loves the 50 degree air. Thank's for the inspiration Nick :thumb:

Yes I did! Not my first ride this year, but first on the Guzzi. I'm cheating here, since I'm going to copy/paste from another post I made earlier today re this year's first ride on the 1200S.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ahhhhh! Is this one sweet bike?! After spending way too much time attempting to change the H4 bulb on the R100GS (unsuccessfully, by the way,) at 3:30pm or so this afternoon, I fired up the Guzzi for the first time since the end of November, and while she idled, I quickly ran upstairs, threw on my boots, ran back to the garage, and grabbed the first old jacket off its hanger, and I was off for 40 or so miles. A very short ride, but very satisfying. I'm sure the rear shock is approaching retirement status, or worse, but this heavy old gal still feels like a Cadillac on our less-than perfect roads. The 2 valve 1151cc engine is a sweet matchup with the six speed tranny that shifts like butter. Front suspension? Lovely. Kudos, Guzzi ...... ya done good!
CARC forever.

February 23....YES! 72 degrees and sunny in South Central Pennsylvania. I rode my sweet 1200 Sport also. One great ride!

Yes it is, but I shudder to think what sort of witch's brew of chlorides (magnesium, calcium, sodium, etc) might be in that stuff, busily munching away at any metal they find ... !!

Yep, they're still out there in the garage having a field day. I'll get around to cleaning it next time it's sunny and above freezing - but with other things on the horizon, it may be July or August before I get to it.
Fortunately, for every person like me who has a lackadaisical attitude to bike cleaning, there are hoards who love to polish and shine. I keep my clean on the inside though, where it matters.

Georgia on my mind. And a bit of Alabama to boot!
275 miles on the GRiSO today.
Approx.10k this past year. The bike truly is feeling to be a better fit for me than I could have hoped for.
Fell for its looks, keeping it for the way it makes me smile... :azn:

My daughter is visiting for the weekend and got here a couple hours before dinner... just in time for us to do a 100 mile loop of country roads around the lake in the 75 degree air and sun. She was on the Ninja 250 and I was on the Mille.
-
I put a new battery in my Vintage, topped it off with my trickle charger, and wiped the dust off the shiny stuff. My goodness, that starter spins up quick with full cranking amps! I rode through nearly all of the country roads in St Tammany Parish! The sun was out, the temperature was in the mid-seventies, and all was right in my world...

Will not be riding today. Am in Las Vegas visiting my mom.
This Nick-Lannis exchange got me thinking about how nice it would be to have a 'mudder' bike - one that I ride in the muck and don't worry about surface rust (so not too much $$ to depreciate), has great winter protection for when that muck is most around (so faired?). Made me think of Crusty's Norge. Cheers everyone.

Nope. 70s yesterday, low 30s and going lower with snow and winds gusting to 35 knots. It would have been a little unpleasant..

I've been out a few times this week during a rare, Feb. Thaw here in the Hilltowns. A couple weeks ago I was dealing with 2 feet of snow. Now its all running in the ditches and the frost is coming out of the ground. I scraped as much ice off the driveway as I could in anticipation of an early ride and did navigate out the driveway onto the sandy roads on my CB500X with 50/50 tires. Didn't want to risk the ride on the Breva yet, though....

This past Saturday, I took my Guzzi out for the first time in months. I rode to the next town over to get my bike inspected so that I could renew the registration on it. It was 42 degrees but it felt good.
I rode in to work this morning on my Guzzi. I came up I-85 in the rush hour traffic just west of Charlotte. It's amazing how relaxed the big Breva feels in the fast lane eating up the road! That tall gearing makes sense there.

Rode the other bike today after I put a new exhaust on it:

Got out today with my buddy Ben and his new ride. He said bye bye to the concourse and bought the 1600gt. What a beauty. 38 degrees and sunny, great day to be out. Him with his heated seat, grips, jacket and gloves, a real wind screen and fairings, me with long johns and not much else. The beemer sounds like a formula one car and won't it scoot. I had no problem out braking him and would catch up in the corners but on the straights I just had to watch him disappear. He said it handles amazing for it's size, but I did notice him grunt getting it off it's side stand.
-
Not today, but I finally got out yesterday. I am soooo ready for the good weather to arrive.

Got about 80 miles on the Rodekyll Saturday. Nowhere in particular, just ferried to the mainland and wandered. Did some of the old US 99 north of Seattle. among other roads. Used to be a fun ride. Now it's such a slow plod in the strip mall traffic that you don't get through an intersection for two or three light changes. Temps in the mid 40 and threatening rain the entire time. Returned to the island and did a few miles of highway 20 (north Cascades hiway starts on Whidbey Island). Got back to the barn at about dusk as the rain began.

Did a 'manly' ride to Michael's arts and crafts to get some beads and baubles for my 2 year old. The hugs on return were even better than the ride. 65F, bright blue skies, just perfect. Riding more and feeling more 'at one' with the bike.

Yesterday I made the 100 loop to the Richmond Virginia Triumph/Moto Guzzi Dealer. Sorry, the place is still a little too glitzy for my tastes, but they had some nice machines on the floor, including a leftover Eldorodo, that is one beautiful motorcycle. What impressed me the most was the Triumph Bobbers, for a niche motorcycle that is one sharp bike in the flesh. Left empty handed and stopped and bought the best home made chicken salad on the planet for dinner. The old Bassa went down interstate all the way laid on 75 to 80 and never missed a beat......

Hmm, I don't think I'd have used the word "glitzy" to describe the place? In an old coffee wholesaler's building, pretty basic decor, lots of helmets and jackets and accessories on the wall, and the floor full of Guzzis, Vespas, Aprilias, and Triumphs .... ?
Now, if you mean are any of the staff including the owner older than my youngest son, the answer would be "no", but ... :thumb:
I'll be back there next week to pick up my Triumph that's undergoing some warranty work to fix the on-board electronic suspension adjustment system ... geez, I never thought I'd say that about one of my bikes ... !

Sorry, I will readily admit it is probably my age. I am used to going down to Norfolk to D&D Import Cycles. Old building not in the best part of town and one of the first Triumph Dealers when they first started back in production with Mr. Bloor. Two man shop with one of the best wrench spinners on the East Coast, he could work on anything but knew Triumphs, (old or new) inside out. Rates were reasonable, and best customer service I have ever encountered. Sadly, Bryan the owner gave up the franchise several years back, he couldn't afford to keep the brand with their requirements for the number of bikes on the floor and yes the glitzy showroom modifications. Still if the Rocket needs something above my limited expertise, they get the call......

Rode to work yesterday - Weaverville to Robbinsville. Only way to get there quickly includes I-26 and I-40 but the rewards once off the highway are nice.
-
No ride so far today, but I rowed six miles (on the lake).
-
Today I took the bike in to our son's work to give him a hand. In two days time I will be doing the 500kms up to Golden Bay at the top of the South Island to spend a few days there. Just wanted to make sure that she is still running ok. I usually break the trip at the 300km mark; the town Murchison is a small town stuck between here and there, and I will need to put a bit of gas in it to get to civilization.
Since the Kaikoura earthquake that route is the only route north. It was not designed for the amount of traffic it is now carrying, it is now full of trucks which used to go via Kaikoura, we have just been blasted by two cyclones and it will be Easter Monday so the road will be full of idiots. Slip, washouts, it should be fun. :undecided:

Rode from Port Charlotte to Sarasota National Cemetery on Friday for a Patriot Guard Mission. It was an afternoon mission so I had plenty of time and decided to ride up Kings Highway (county 769) to State Highway 72 which take you right past the Cemetery. A nice road with little traffic that passes through Myakka River State Park. Stopped on the bridge over the river and counted about 14 good sized gators sunning themselves on the bank.
At the Mission one of the members said he was going back that way so I said I would also go. All in all a good ride on a nice day, temps were about 87 degrees and sunny.
I will be back in Minnesota in about three weeks after stopping a Cedar Vale for the get together.
Ride safe

Not today but yesterday I rode to the beer distributor and bough 4 cases of pounders. Go home and thought we needed some double smoked kielbasa, pickled hot kielbasa and Krakowska from a little shop 116 miles from home. Checked the site open until 5:00pm. Get there at 2:30pm and the sign "sorry we're closed" was hanging in the window. I'll try again next week but will call 1st to confirm hours of operation :thumb:

Around here, I've seen restaurants close early if it's a hot day. You can call ahead and they'll say they're open, and then you get there and it's dark inside.

Even if that's the case this time I'll be prepared. 1st I'll leave earlier and if they are closed again I'll do a 200 mile zig zag home. Actually even if they are open I'll throw a bag of ice in the pannier and still meander home. :thumb:

Yep, yesterday as well. About 50 miles then and another 35 or so today. Just stayed local and enjoyed being out and about. Two beautiful autumn days, not cold, just cool in the morning.
Us new geese are starting to post a bit huh?

Peter, the owner was shocked to hear about my wife's passing.. He's known her a long time. After all the boo-hooing, we got down to business and I got the oil for the next oil change. Sorry, I don't know what brand it is what viscosity it is or anything else😃😃.
Here's an interesting sign. Pretty self explanatory. Drink beer, go straight. Go to work, turn right. Dead end.

Return 300 mile trip. When I arrived in Golden Bay I found that the rear tire tread had disappeared. I tried all the tire centers in the nearest (small) city, 70 miles away and drew a blank. The local motorcycle shop tried for me and located one, a Metzeler MeZ-2. It is a steel belted radial but not too badly priced; seems like they are OEM for some Triumphs. The shop of course had to remove the wheel as mine does not have a centre stand. The mechanic however had worked on Guzzis for 12 years but paying someone to take it out hurts. (More Guzzi content )
I am very pleased with the way the tire feels, more planted than the Sport Demon. Will be interested to see how it wears.
The trip home was like the trip up, some bits you could at least do the speed limit but other times the triffids made their presence felt. The fuel light came on at 180 miles, which means the Breva has a range of about 260 miles :thumb:. She ran perfectly for the whole trip, and I had a great week away.
-
I rode again today. Had too. Cool but dry. Forecast for the week is rain with snow mixed. Besides I'm going to go to work this week.

Wife and I rode the three twisted sisters in the Texas hill country. We are staying in Fredericksburg and did a 275 mile loop of sorts. Got our lean on for a few dozen hundred times. it was a great day. Rode 16 from Fredericksburg to Medina, then 337 to Camp Wood, up 55 to Barksdale, and on 335 to highway 41. East over to 336, then down to Leakey. Back up 83 to 39 and into Kerrville. Then 16 back to the hotel.

Did the annual Saint Johns ANZAC day ride to Little River, about a 100 mile round trip. It is put on by the Christchurch Ulysses club who get donated bike goods to raffle, supply all the food and ALL money raised goes to one of the local St Johns. Always a good day out, catch up with guys you already know and meet some new ones.

I might need a canoe to get to you...EVERY creek, river, and ditch is FULL already full and the heaviest rain is yet to come...🤓

I did ... the old college inaugurated a new president today (that's 25 in 250 years), so I decided to put on the tasseled loafers, the khaki pants, the oxford shirt, the garnet-and-gray school tie, and folded a blue jacket into the top box, and hit the road. Changed out of the armored mesh into the sportcoat at the "do" and suddenly I was "in style" again, partying like it was 1974.
Outdoor under the huge oak trees with the breeze blowing, some good speeches, some good singing by the school chorus, nice trooping of the colors by the ROTC, and then an outdoor reception with an unbelievable amount and quality of food. Talked to old profs that taught ME 45 years ago ... then zoomed the back roads home.
When I ride, I'm 18 again, every time ....

I took the G out for a flog and tried to get the new Ti pipes to colour up like the Ghetto bad boyz! No such luck, whether it is me being a softcock or simply the fact the air was bloody cold they're only getting jiggy down about a foot from the port!
Quadruple Arse! How can I possibly hold my head up in real company?!

You need to at least stop at the Elbow Bar on the way home. If the Roaring Rubidoux don't rise too high. It's a funky little joint on Rt66 @ Devil's Elbow. Still got my digits right?
We checked it out when we "did" Rt. 66. Harley Bob's wife (Dorcia's sister) wouldn't go in..

If they are Titanium I don't think it blues does it? Seem to remember that it goes a slight brown after a while.
You will just have to flog it harder.

Hell no, it's rained about 6 inches today............re ally. I did do a oil & plug change on the LMIII however.

Rode about 100 miles to a ride to eat. :food: We got several inches of heavy rain, lightning, and high winds. I felt really tough about making it to the meet until I got there and a guy from Wichita rode in on his 1989 FJ1300 with his 15 year old daughter on back. She came voluntarily and put others that weennied out to shame. On the ride back home I had to keep telling myself to man up and quit whining! :weiner:

St.Louis toTulsa via Cabool, MO....I-44 closed from Rolla to Lebanon, MO...major high water and flood damage along the way...water still rising in many places...the Norge shrugged it all off as usual and ran like a champ all the way...top speed logged 102 mph....loved having my heated vest...see you in Cedar Vale!

Yup,
Today was the perfect day to ride out here around Raleigh, NC. I did feel the need for speed and torque as I got up this morning, so my MG's rested in the stable, while my souped up 96 GSXR burned the country roads around my home up! :)
I love my MG's, and they have all of the speed and torque that I will ever need for around here, but I am still a little stunned to see the differences in performance and handling when I compare my 96 GSXR 1100 with my 96 & 97 MG 1100 Sport bikes.

It's supposed to rain all day but I wanted to go up the mountain and check out a living history museum I want to bring my sisters to while they are here for my wife's funeral.
So at 7:30, off I went. Today is a holiday and the streets are nearly empty. . Temps are cool, but not cold. Bike is running great and I'm feeling fine.
Did what I wanted to do,,, wasted some more time and gas wandering,, then came home. Just finished breakfast, drinking a coffee, and its only 9:30 am.😀

Yup. Took my standard waste of time ride 30 miles for no-ethanol premium to Burnsville, then decided to take the backroads home over the pass just northwest of Mt Mitchell on Rt 197 to get home on time. If you ever get a chance to ride Rt 197 south of Burnsville, don't pass it up. The first switchback isn't marked and the speed limit is 55, but you're heading over a high ridge so buyer beware. Unfortunately, the road ran out of asphalt after I crested the ridge and I didn't have the spirit to try the downhill on dirt. So I U-turned, enjoyed the ride back to Burnsville, was wicked late, but with a lot of smiles. Mt. Mitchell and others had a frost cap which looked real nice today.

I rode the Beemer, the Piaggio, and the Vintage today. I'd have ridden the Triumph too, but the battery needed a charge. It sure was a pretty day in St Tammany Parish...

Fay and I are taking off tomorrow and Wednesday to ride the Virginia and West Virginia mountains, and hang out with my cousins Tuesday night. Should be a couple of cool, pretty days. Fay's got her electric vest ready if she needs it!

Yes and my new jacket was tasty warm. My bare knees however were not. I still wear cargo shorts just cause I like them. 58 degrees F.

Little chilly in the lower Hudson valley today, but was itching to get out on the roads.

Four hundred miles and beautiful weather, Fay didn't need to plug in the vest. Fun and familiar roads, me best gal up behind, friends to meet, and just beat a thunderstorm home.

-
To work and back. The commute goes way faster than by car.
I wish it had worked that way for me, but my commute (24 miles, 33 minutes) was way faster in the car.
If I was taking my Festiva:
1) Walk out to the shed (40 seconds)
2) Open car door and sit down (10 seconds)
3) Crank it up and put it in reverse (5 seconds)
4) Buckle seat belt while rolling down driveway (0 seconds)
5) Drive to work (33 minutes) and park.
6) Open door, get out of car (5 seconds).
So 33 minutes of driving and 60 seconds of overhead.
For the bike"
1) Walk out to shed (40 seconds).
2) Roll bike out of shed (15 seconds).
3) Put in earplugs (20 seconds).
4) Pull on jacket, adjust cuffs and collar, adjust vents/velcro (120 seconds)
5) Pull on gloves and tuck cuffs under gauntlet (60 seconds).
6) Give visor a quick wipe of previous day's bugs, pull on and adjust (60 seconds).
7) Start bike and quick checklist (sidestand, tires) (10 seconds).
8) Ride to work (33 minutes, no lanesplitting here)
9) Park bike at work and swing off (10 seconds)
10) Pull helmet off and store in top box (30 seconds).
11) Pull jacket and gloves off and store in pannier (30 seconds).
So as you can see, it takes about 5 minutes longer to commute on the bike than it does in the car. 8 or 10 minutes longer if it's raining.
So in today's world of $200 motorcycle tires that last 6000 miles, equal gas mileage, and half the engine life, riding the bike to work every day is a losing proposition compared to a car both from an operating cost and a time-efficiency standpoint.
But I did it every day anyway .... !!!

I decided it was time to exercise the Rokon. I had planned on a fairly extensive ride but this 1950 technology was not to let me. After about 2 miles There was a terrible chain and sprocket noise so I immediately stopped. I could see that the front chain from the miter gear at the steering head to the front swingarm was off track. I had a reasonably full tool kit so I got to work and took off the forward chain cover. The upper sprocket was off the shaft. The roll pins that secured it had worked out and one was broken. The only tool I lacked was a hammer but a car stopped and loaned me one. I was able to remount the sprocket and chain and tap one of the roll pins into place. At low speed, ( even slower than normal Rokon speed I nursed it home only to have the sprocket dismount as I got there. I removed the sprocket and punched out the remains of the roll pins. I took the sprocket in to the Ace hardware and bought 2 of the correct roll pins. Back home I remounted the sprocket and tapped in the two roll pins until they met in the middle as they were supposed to. I figured I should probably add some spare roll pins to my repair kit so off to the hardware I started. At about 1 mile, I heard the start of that dreadful noise again and stopped in the middle of town and dismounted my wheelchair and dug out my pin punch and hammer. ( I had brought a hammer from home) and put it back together again. I left off the chain cover so that I could watch it as I rode the last 4 blocks to the hardware. I could visibly the roll pins coming out after only 2 blocks. I stopped and tapped them back into place, and went on. 2 blocks later as I parked at the hardware, the roll pins were again out of pace and the sprocket off.
In the hardware I selected a grade 8 bolt and a unlock nut. Remounting the sprocket, I secured it this time with the bolt and nut. I rode home with the chain cover off and was happy to see that it had held together this time.
This machine has only a total of about 200 miles since new and was totally disabled by the sprocket falling off because when this happens it jambs up the front wheel so that it cannot rotate.
Tomorrow I will telephone the Rokon designer and discuss his ancestry, IQ, sexual habits and those of his mother and what ever she practices them with. Rokon is a ripoff. I have ongoing head shake problems and a speedometer that failed at 90 miles. Now this. I cannot understand how they have stayed in business for nearly 60 years with this kind of lack of quality. I guess they haven't run out of new buyers because I seriously doubt anyone would buy a second one.

Seems to me you need to upgrade to an inefficient SUV to balance the equation a little better. Don't forget to factor the seasonal change over in tires....
-
I found the car vs bike commuting comparison more than interesting. Up here in Ontario where it is often really cold in the early spring and fall and really hot (for us) in the summer the lure of heating and air conditioning often wins out.
I am usually on a vintage bike and I think that also adds to the time with all those extra checks to be made.
-
No longer subscribe to the "commute to work" thing. Did it on a 1971BMW R75/5, 600 miles a week for 3 yrs. Just wore down a cool old bike that I wasn't eager to jump on for a weekend ride.
Dicing with the "late for work" crowd in the dark on the same route, rinse/repeat...
"Crap Miles" I call it.
YMMV

I must admit it annoys me no end when even a klutz like me can see a design flaw as big as a barn door, and yet a product was put in to being with that flaw in it. Give 'em hell Jim! :thumb:

I wonder how Randy's held up on the cross country trip or did he modify it too. Reminds me of how the rear sprocket on a XLCH '72 was pop riveted onto the backing plate. A friend replaced them with small machine screws & nylocks. Fortunately, he did the repair before it self-destructed.
-
Many years ago Yamaha brought out a (I think) 750 twin. Built like a brick outhouse BUT, the cam chain tensioner had a nut welded to the TENSION side of the spring. The nut of course sooner or later let go, and if you were barrelling along and couldn't hear the noise the motor quickly self destructed as all the aluminium dust from the camchain tunnel seized the motor. A friend made good coin by hiring my gas plant and putting the nut on the other side of the spring so it actually pulled against the spring itself. The spring already had a hole in it for the bolt to go through. He had customers queuing up. Bulletproof, and so basic.

The sort-of-point was that it's not totally a question of economics. And the first 2/3 of my commute in (and, therefore, the last 2/3 coming home) was a pleasant motorcycle ride, worth doing for its own sake ....

If you have to think up a reason to ride, you do not have a bikers mindset.
-
I had a great ride on the H2 yesterday, with my daughter following on the Ninja 250. New tires, some front suspension work, and a brake upgrade, and the old H2 is handling better than the Mille. Not a lot, but it is 100 lbs lighter, after all.

Christmas Eve in Scotland, the snow and ice had briefly disappeared so my wife and I got the 650 single BMWs out for a 70:mile run, the weather was cold and wet but as always worth it for the escape from life motorcycling always brings. The Guzzi’s are tucked up for Winter. Happy Christmas to all

Question, did those MZ's have a Yamaha engine?
-
Early one's had Rotex, had a few customers, one w/Velorex sidecar. You the crazy Man, got your cold butt ride in, not me.
-
Question, did those MZ's have a Yamaha engine?
The 660 cc MZs were Yamaha powered - Skorpion Tour,Traveler, Sport, Sport Cup Replica, Baghira.
The earlier 500s were Rotax powered - Saxon Tour, Saxon Country, Silver Star Classic/Gespann
There were later MZs with "in-house" engines - 125s and the 1000S/SF.
Before the Berlin Wall fell, most everything was 2-stroke.
-
Charlie is right of course. It's a Yamaha 660 single. Counterbalanced. Five valves. two into 1 exhaust. Weird Harold twin carburators that work well once sorted and a *good* fuel filter installed. As I mentioned, not a thumper. Needs to be kept on the boil, not happy below 3500 rpm. Buzzy above 5500, but makes good power. Boring as a BMW though.. If that chassis had a Guzzi engine, it would be Melissa's perfect motorcycle.
-
Yep, Central Texas was near 70 today after single digits last Friday. Just a short, one hour jaunt on the '04 Breva 750, but it recharged my "battery" as well as the Breva's.
I have two other, newer bikes (non-Guzzi) but when I want an emotional lift they remain in the garage. and the Guzzi comes out. The Breva is about at the upper end of my weight management ability, but I am very careful at stops and navigating into and out of the garage and we have remained upright so far!

I rode the Quota for a short warm up ride yesterday and then did an oil change. (I will do a full oil service when my pan gasket and filters come in) Then today, I went for a short ride to get coffee with a friend. The weather has been really nice with temps in the 60s. I had a really good coffee and some great motorcycle conversation. The net result of both days activity is a bum and painful left leg and knee. It has something to do with crawling around the floor under the Guzzi, climbing up onto the Quota's seat and being 63 years old with all my creaky joints.

Well, Hell yes!! Had to be with my 2nd loves on Valentine Day, rotate bikes & rode 2.

Riding the Mongrel Monza v65. Sorry, didn't take any pictures.
Tomorrow, maybe. 57 degrees, but 35 mph gusts.

Im on the NY side of the Berkshires and it has been pretty nice! Busy doing some repairs to my daily driver Grand Caravan, but they say its going to be in the upper 50's the next two days, and I have off of work, so the plan sure is to hit the road at some point!! I didnt get to do much riding last fall, so bolth the bike, and I are itching to get out!!

I wonder what happened to the OP Troy H.?

Rode my Stelvio today, first time in 3 or 4 weeks. Just a work commute, but damn I love that bike.

Many of the threads seem to be looking for a specific response, however if you just click on Reply it allows you to type anything in response, anything is better than nothing I reckon
I haven't ridden since Christmas

Took the Duc out for 40 miles. Today was perfect but no bikes out. Yesterday had horrendous wind, took the Greenie to the shop and I had to get off the highway and drive through town.
-
only 60 miles on my EV. Warmest day in February in recorded history.
Was careful at intersections as there is a lot of sand on the pavement.

I took a brief ride today on my V85TT. It was 70F here in Richmond, to be 80 tomorrow! WTF?
I've also been riding my Triumph Tiger and my combination Yam Virago 1100 with a Dniepr sidecar.

The roads are dry so I took the XT250 out for a short loop, first ride of Spring '23. Another winter storm due tomorrow and I'm driving up to Big Sky for a few days of powder skiing.
