I had the cheapie Cushman (Allstate) step-thru @ 3.5 or 4 HP. It would top out at 35 mph. Thought the Eagles were a bit faster??
I walked past a boat dealer that sold them and used to stop on my way home from school.I seem to recall a claim that they could go 50.A year or so later an older guy let me ride his Allstate up and down his alley. At the time you could get a scooter license at14 in IL.I was 14 but had no money, took me another 6 years to buy the Dream.Always wanted one but not at these prices.
Most of them you see anymore have an OMC overhead valve engine installed , one with an original side valve Clinton engine is worth more I am guessing . Wiki says the big one would do 50 MPH , a claim that seems dubious at best , a Honda S 90 would tun off and hide from one , and despite claims of 64 MPH for one of those , on a good day they might make a real 51 MPH . Oh my!!!! An amazing 9HP!!!
...and you thought this forum had a lot of "Guzzi Geezers!!"
My first motorcycle/scooter was a Cushman Trailster. It had a two speed transmission with a centrifugal clutch.
My first wreck on two wheels (other than bicycles) was on a Cushman step through scooter. Picked pea gravel out of the palm of my hands for an hour.
Very similar experience; no gravel in hands but road rash on an elbow and sore all over!!Jack~ good to hear from you! we need to figure out how to get together??
