61 A10 neearly finished.
« on: May 11, 2021, 04:31:18 PM »
From a pile of mismatched parts, $4000 and a lot of labor...Most everything needed fabrication to fit...What we got is a 61 BSA Super Road Rocket uncut frame and lightly modified engine. 2000 Honda 600 CBR fork assembly and a bunch of old Brit parts...The engine is internally sock taking advantage of modern precision machine work. Mikuni 32mm flatslide carb, rewound and remagnetised Lucas magneto, I converted the generator to 12 volts and a bunch of other stuff....

About 45 hp, about 380 pounds, the drum front brake for backroad thrills...Had more than a few stripped treads, the cylinder was a bugger...Bought the expensive TimeSert kits, much better than Helicoils..

When properly assembled and balanced the vibration doesn't define a few hour ride...This bike ain't exactly an interstate arm chair...

Rough that's amazing,  :thumb:

It'll be nice and light on a curvy back road.

Tks for sharing all those photos,, all those classy curves and shapes on the outside of the engine, make sense now that I've seen what the innards look like

The A10 has a fully welded frame that was quite rigid for the time period. I did some  spring  work on the CBR forks that have fully adjustable dampening. In the rear are older Koni shocks with adjustable dampening...

I have a Super Rocket 1961 n RGS spec (in the UK it was either a road rocket or a Super Rocket) Spitfire cams, RGS valves, Balanced crank SRM Roller main bearing conversion, eddie Dow front fork conversion and Triumph twin leader front Brake. Have owned it for 38 years !! bought two for £175 one in bits and this one, sold the bits for around £200. It used to be my main (only) transport lost track of the miles done but it must be well over 100000 miles. not so many miles now since guzzis came along. There is very little vibration at normal riding speeds, its easy to alter the gearing to move vibration out of the way. alltogether its been a good reliable bike with only one big engine failure when an oil line split at motorway speeds. Hence he roller conversion etc etc. I used to run high comp pistons but that needed 5 star petrol so don to 9.5 to 1 now. It can still give more modern bikes a fright on the right road.
