Clearly not this time Dan.
He’s good in spite of the bike, not because of it.

I know several insanely fast riders-the motorcycle makes no difference.  Disclaimer-of course, this means the bike is up to snuff, but that said, I've seen guys on supposedly much lesser bikes absolutely SMOKE "go fast" motorcycles.

Same. Natural talent is only complimented by equipment. Equipment does not make up for lack of talent.

The machine does it with you, not for you.  Ride with real professionals and they'll whip your butt on a much lesser bike.

But there's also the familiarity with the road being ridden.  When it's one of "your" roads, it's hard for any foreigner or tourist to show your how it's done.  That rider on the Harley knows that road completely, just like he knows his bike.  That's a tough combination to beat.

Great rider on the HD, the guy taking the bigger risk is the bike filming from behind, if the racer in front goes down there ain’t much room to get out of the way.

My old red neck riding buddy could flop his GL1200 into the curves and scrape the chrome rails off the bottom of the integral Aspencade saddle bags when he was in the mood to make me look pathetic trying to keep pace with him on my Kawasaki Concorse.

I had a Harley group challenge me on a ride last fall on a twisty mountain road. Couldn't keep up on the turns, thought they would pass me on the straights, nope not even close. They were good riders though, just didn't have enough lean angle.

I clearing recall riding with a small group during the NM national years ago. The lead bike was an Eldo with a local rider. I was on the T-3, other was a highly experienced rider on a what at the time was a late model California. The Eldo ran away from us.

Reminds me of this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDxBGc9TD4c No way could I do that on my trials bike and here he is riding a big adv bike. Think I would be afraid to even walk over the dam he rides across - too high a penalty for a slight bobble......

Great riders make it look easy.

WAAAYY OUTA MY LEAGUE, but as General Chuck Yeager always said:

or asked about attacking an enemy in a superior aircraft:

IMNSHO, it is always the rider. Of course when considering the average rider, a motorcycle can improve capabilities, but the real deciding factor is the rider not the motorcycle

I've said this many a time.

Most bikes are capable of way more than most riders, especially on the street.

So though an incredible bike will help the so so rider perform "better"

Within reasonable limits, the better rider will prevail.

Yeah, the best rider on a Grom isn't gonna "beat" a halfway decent rider on a 600cc or so, there are limits.

But generally sure the rider will set the limits.

Ps and half the street riders who bitch about the limits of their bikes didn't use the body English/weight shifting and proper line to max said bike.

I’d say you are spot on with that explanation 👍

It depends on if you are leading the "ride" or following the leader.  And a drag race, City riding, expressway or country roads.

I can ride my Buell blast as lead bike and leave much bigger bikes behind on country roads and play catchup on expressway.

I have owned over 25 bikes and rode hundreds.  They were all more capable of performance beyond my ability.  But, have been told by many riders I am a good rider.  Riding a FJ1200 at 85 mph and spinning the rear tire side ways in 3rd gear scares me.

It is always the rider.

Only to be limited by the equipment.

There is a guy on the Road Glide forum I am on that has Ohlins Suspension all around and has the chassis raised two inches.  He runs in good company because his girlfriend is a professional Harley stunt rider.
