I live near here and some of my in-laws grew up there. Notorious subject of a book and many local stories.

I just came from picking up a check for a elevator I sold in GALMEY, Mo. No weird "meaning" but still an odd name.

Years ago there was a sign south of Dallas denoting a community called "Tote Water"; guess there is no mystery how it came by the name!!!

SE of Dallas there is a town named "Gun Barrel" which got it's name from the road leading to it from Mabank, TX. Supposedly the road was as straight as a gun barrel leading south out of Mabank!!

Went to all the towns that have my last name in Bavaria, Austria & Switzerland.  (Au) About 6 of them.  Common thing for all of them.  Beer distributorships.   :boozing: :boozing:  It's also on the periodic table for gold.     The signs on the autobahn would get a grin from me "Ausfarht".     Yes, I do with the right food.   I didn't know we were German.  https://www.houseofnames.com/au-family-crest

If you were in Austria, you'd probably chuckle then when going thru this town:

I bet they have beer there.  Have to look at a map to see where exactly it's at.  Didn't go through there.     I definitely would have taken some pix.   :boozing:

Talk about sowing oats...... (MN)

I just had to get off...and take a pic.

On the South end of Ft. Madison Iowa we have a molybdenum factory named Climax, and across the road a windmill blade plant where my wife works named Siemens.

I have of course been through Intercourse........ .and if I recall, also in PA there is a Woodcock and Cherry town very near each other. And I did recently pass a dirt road named 4wheeldrive, which I thought was pretty humorous. I think that was PA or NY state.

I would guess that most of us have been through intercourse, some more than once.

Rode through Gas Kansas, but didn’t stop, I was full.

I did stop in Flushing, left empty.

.

When I came upon this sign I went straight. Just couldn’t decide.

I stayed in a hotel in licking while installing some equipment in the local Rawlings baseball equipment factory. The sing in front said "free radio" what it really meant was NO TELEVISIONS!

But I did get to embroider the name on Ozzie Smith's new glove

We went to a town in Ok called Nowhere. True.

We have a Speed, Indiana right in my back yard.  Named after J.B. Speed, and industrial engineer and owner of the Speed-Portland Cement factory.  The best cement made in the World.  There is a School of Science and other buildings named after Him in Louisville, KY.
