It's also a Kerosine heater to keep me warm in the winter, and a window fan during the summer within my 11'x24' & 12'x16' sheds. I am planning on insulating and adding sheetrock to my 11'x24' bike shed and then install a wall heating and cooling unit. The summers around here are to hot and humid, and the winters are just cool enough that I would rather have a electric HVAC unit and not needing to depend on only a fan in the summer or on Kerosine heat during the winter. I also need to seal off the outside environment from my bike shed, since the mosquitos and horse flies are getting the best of me between March and November!

Spent all day in mine, just to gain about 10 sq ft.. I did have my pellet stove running, and Music on You tube. Old XP Netbook works perfect with Ad blocker..

Anyway took pics of my progress. Reason is, I needed to find space for a Milling machine I traded for.. I will never find space for my 5-ft slip roll, and large Blast cabinet..  Thinking of using half my 20X 20 garage ,and freeing them up out of my shipping container..I have a 5X10 plasma cutter, and it sucks up all sorts of space in 26X 32 shop.(inside a bit smaller)Might cut it in half, since it can be put back to full length if I really needed it that big.. Been a while since I have even had a sheet that big on it..

My bike is stored in the garage, but going down to the shop soon for a look over.. I now have my gantry up, and I am going to leave it up..Real handy for lifting things on the lift I am posting all the ones I shot tonight. Pic heavy for sure but show it takes some thought to stuff 10 pounds of S**T into a 5 pound bag.. I can still get a full size truck into the shop, and have room to work on it...

Anyone remember a thread here some years back about the guy who burned his house, garage, cars, and Guzzi due to gasoline vapor pooling low in the garage and then flashing over from I believe it was a gas heater?!?

No,
but did it to my moms house in 1973.  Half burned down. The CB-350 tank crossover tube, and gas water heater on the floor.. No real codes for having it lifted up in the air.. I watched the fumes catch fire, and engulf me, and my brothers Honda If you look at my shop post, there is not one rag laying around, and there is a reason for my madness..

PS-all rags/flammable papers/etc. end up in my Burn barrel before I shut things down ..Metal garbage can with a lid in the mean time..

Well this is an inspiring thread

I have just sold the electric concrete mixer that lived in my garage for 10 years getting used about once every other year so now have a bunch of space liberated!

In addition to the Easy Rizer lift I have I've been toying with building a lazy susan turntable as the 23 point turn on the gravel drive every time pretty much does for me!

Anyone built a lazy susan turntable?

Lets you move them around in the garage easier, but for me not practical unless you have bikes you don't really ride much.

A simple kerosene heater turns my unheated garage into a heated garage. I just lighted the heater and in about a 1/2 hour it'll be sweatshirt temperature in an a hour or so t-shirt temperature.

Craigslist + $50 = heated work space

Doesn't that create moisture issues? Varying temps, I mean.

It was me.... The Honda's had a gas line from one side of the tank to the other that looped inside the frame.. Putting it on with gas in the tank will let it leak some gas.. If you don't get the line on fast enough it will drip gas on the floor.bike.. Having the pilot light on the water heater low to the ground allowed the fumes catch fire.   The water heater was pretty new, and we just had gas ran to the house, a year or two earlier. Three things came together, and ended with quite a fire..One of Life's lessons that stuck with me too this day..

No issue. I do run a box fan pointed at the ceiling to help get the hot air from the ceiling mixing with the cooler air at ground level. This isn't becasue of moisture but rather keeping the air temp the same throughout the space. Just like runnign a ceiling fan in the main house to keep the air from stratfying.

My shop is 14 by 30 and insulated. A few years back I had a wall mounted ac/heat unit like you see in many motels. It also has a "freeze guard" which keeps the temp just a bit above freezing. Had no regrets.

        Hey tris,
Spotted this on youtube a while back and seems pretty easy to build, the key is the lazy susan weight rating.

I got kicked out of the garage after acquiring my second loop project. So I converted what used to be a boat port into my shop.
My particular invention is a bike ramp that converts to a deck so I can work "en plein air".
I made an animated GIF of the build, which features my builder buddy and also the concealing fence and cactus garden, which was another requirement.
(Click on the image and then you have to click "Load Full Resolution" to see the animation).
Also visible is the $100 240v space heater I rigged up, which heats up the space in about 15 minutes.

buffalo child name

Very lucky to have my current setup. 30' wide 28' deep. Another 20' wide bay in the process of being added which is why everything is bunched together at the moment. There is a attached two car garage on the house which actually gives us more sq footage in garage space than the house. As I said I am very lucky.

Brand X,
How much gasoline was spilled?  And how long was it sitting there?  Just trying to get a handle on the risk.

And... let me relate an almost identical situation that nearly killed me.
My first bike was a project Honda 175 that I got in college.  My fraternity brothers and I muscled it's barely rolling chassis up to my 2nd floor apt room.  The bike still had fuel, and one night the plastic cross-over pipe between the two tank halves, broke, spilling gasoline over the carpet.  I was asleep, and woke in the morning to the powerful fumes.  Thank G-d it never ignited, and that I wasn't smothered by the fumes.  I eventually got the bike running, and for one glorious summer it was my only transportation.

Ah, the follies of youth.

Been a while, but maybe a pint on the floor.. Does not take much.I was about 10-12 feet away from the pilot light. The flame moved faster then I could.. Had a split second to decide if I wanted to drag the bike outside.. Hands caught on fire a bit, and that killed that idea.

My wife wanted her car in the garage so that killed any idea of parking bikes in there although I put them in their will modifying my shop.

My garage/workshop is seasonally available. It's a large-ish 2 1/2 car garage and provides pretty good workshop accommodation in the non-winter months. However, I've grown sufficiently soft in my advanced years that I'm no longer a fan of wintry workshops and ice-cold tools. I've also come to appreciate the benefits of parking the cars indoors. As a result, what you see here is the winter prep garage situation. Everything on two wheels is either hanging from the walls or tucked in at the deep end. With two cars added to the mix, I have just enough space to get to the tools and access the snowblower. Any bike-related work has to be small enough to take down into the basement.
