« on: June 21, 2019, 09:26:28 AM »
Don't know if this is someone on the board but thought the Guzzi-ista would find it interesting. I think Waayyy to much money but for a collector there is an ass for every seat, don'cha know. :^)

Interesting . Rodekyll knows his stuff , still , $10K seems a bit steep , then again , you can always go down , you can't ever go up .

Definitely a unique opportunity to own an un-used Hydro EV brought out of hybernation, and with the "fix" -- I hope it goes to a good home where its appreciated !

I don't think the price is unreasonable, I bought an '04 EV last year for around $2400, but after adding bags, bag brackets, new shocks, correct handle bars, ceramic coating the headers, correct turn signals, etc, etc, I'm probably in for at least $5K, and it has 30,0000 miles !  This one is basically better than new with the "Fix".

I had a hydro EVT that I still regret selling.   That's a very sporty price.   At least  double of what the market would bear, but you never know...

In 2006 I bought an 04 EVT, with the same color scheme as this one. The bike was mint condition with less than 5k miles and all the recalls had been performed by the Guzzi dealer where it was purchased new. I gave 4500.00 dollars for the EV. Yes I wish I had kept it and no I don’t think the one in question here is worth 10k, at least I would not pay that, however the value is exactly how bad one wants one of these great models is willing to pay for it.

If Guzzi came out this year with a 2019 "retro" EVT, to look exactly like it did in 2004 for a mere $10000, it would be a very decent price. This bike has 204 miles on it. It pretty much is a brand new "retro" Guzzi.

I don't agree with the "good for 200,000 mile" comment.  Of the 4 hydo motors I have taken apart after the recall, 2 had bad head gaskets and all 4 had bad rocker arm and valve stem wear.  I would blame it on poor oiling due to oil pressure lose around the tappets.  The oil feed passages thru the crankcase that feed the hydraulic lifter continues to the head oil feed line connected/branching off at the top of the engine.  Lowering the rocker oiling pressure and volume. Leading to the rocker arm and valve stem wearing.

The valves do need to be inspected and re adjusted to compensate for the wear. Still a good engine though.  Just my experience, other may very.

It's an odd one to price, for sure. I can't recall a 16 year old guzzi coming up for sale with 200 miles. It'd be choice for a collector.

In another recent post here, regarding the auction of several guitars used by David Gilmore.  One guitar was initially appraised at $100,000 to $150,000, but sold for a hammer price of $3,975,000.  So a 200-mile 16-year old Guzzi refreshed by our own locally work famous Rodekyll could fetch around 30-times his asking price.  Time to arrange an auction with Christie's.

Probably using the wrong oil.  Calls for the thinner 5W/40.
