1100 Sport

   I've owned this bike since 98 and have accumulated 120,000 miles on it. I started having transmission problems 14 years ago, so I parked it as I had other bikes to ride. Now I'm retired and those other bikes have gone by the wayside. I spent a couple of months lavishing attention to every need the old girl that she needed. And today I finally took her out for a 100 mile ride to let her breath again and she rewarded me with the same glorious sensations she used to provide. It's really incredible that such a simple bike is so satisfying. So easy to work on. I have less than $700 in the restoration including the trans rebuild and rear end rebuild plus brakes, forks seals, carbs, etc. I think that's a pretty good return on investment. Looking forward to another 100,000 miles.

Only one I wouldn't get a fight over if I wanted to put it in the house.  Lower living room.  I still might do that with Dayton 1000 #3.

Last of the carb'd & rhorty hooligan sportsters! Last thing Guzzi made that deserved the name 'Le Mans' (IMHO).

Good enough to please, simple enough to phuk with and make yer own.

Have a '96 myself. Think of selling it now and again. Then I ride it.

What type of transmission problems were you having with it, and what was the fix? Sounds like you had some great riding out it with 120k on the clock!

   Groover, the trans. started jumping out of second gear, both on acceleration and decel. When I took it apart it was obvious and just what I expected. The dogs on the gears had rounded off a bit. I searched everywhere for new gears but couldn't find any. But I persisted because I didn't want to go the route of transplanting helical gears. I like the turbin like whine of the straight cut gears. I got lucky after talking to a lot of people and found a guy local to me who's business is fixing motorcycle transmissions and he's been in business for 30 years. He welded up the dogs and recut them with a 5 degree undercut. He did a beautiful job, the gears look like jewelry. I then replaced all the bearings and seals.
