New Toro Snow blower
« on: July 08, 2019, 11:18:29 AM »
Bought my self a new Toro snow blower before last winter.  Went to drain the float bowl ("summerizing procedure") and accidentally took off the whole bowl (was thinking about my Dellortos) , and NOT the drain bolt located to the side at about a 45 degree angle.  Gas game spewing out.  I hurriedly put the bowl back on and tightened it up.  I then loosened the bolt to the side and gas would not stop coming out.  Am I missing something here?  Did I loose a small part to never be seen again? Any help / insight appreciated.

Sounds like the float may have dropped enough to allow the float needle to either fall out or (more likely) misalign and jam when you hurriedly put the bowl back on.   btdt...

Drain all the gas if you like (lots cleaner and safer) and then go back in there to check float, needle & seat, etc.   and put things back together at a more relaxed pace.  that's what I would check.

Isn't there a fuel line shut off?
Also make sure the needle didn't come loose, and see if it went back into the seat correctly.

I think that you've hit the nail on the head.  I did go ahead and drain all the gas (got sick of taking a bath in it!) so I could have a look at it another day.  Sounds like a good future project.  Best not to procrastinate, though.  Summer in Wisconsin is only so long!  Thank you for your help, it's much appreciated.

Wish there was a shut off for the fuel line, but no.  It's a direct connection.

I always run my 2 stroke Toro until it runs dry in the Spring.  Always starts the next winter for 25 years now. Great unit!

As you probably know, all the new ones are 4 strokes.  Gave the 2 stroker away to my girlfriend's son-in-law.  Once I get this thing fixed, I don't intend to gas it up until i need it.

I always shut off or disconnect the fuel hose and run the thing dry.  When it begins to stutter, spray WD40 directly into the carb.  It will run on the WD but roughly.
then the you put it away, there will be no oxidation damage to the valves or any upper cylinder parts.  Next year they ALWAYS star right up.  If you remember to hookup and open the fuel lines.

That is the same shutoff valve I have been using on the bikes for years. Even have one on the ho made bench tank.
Got em at the local REAL hardware store. Not Lowes or Home Depot.
They work well.
And cheep!

If you loosened the bowl you really to remove it and check in there.  Most new bowls have an O ring which is easily dislodged and a fiber washer on the bolt that holds the bowl on.  Make sure your float and needle are functional. Usually they cannot drop so far that the needle falls out, but you can easily make sure.  A dab a grease will hold the O ring until the bowl is replaced and secure.  Mike
