I'm sure this thread will have some mixed reviews, but it won't be the first time I've stirred the pot. A former member who probably at least visits this forum regularly is a bonafide, genuine, backyard, shade tree, etc., etc. mechanic. He scavenges for various parts and manages to make Frankenstein creations which might horrify some folks here, but I can see a potential use for this sort of skill set even if we don't get to Mad Max esque society.
I've been hauling around a '98 EV engine in the back of my Suburban for several years now. Actually, it's a pretty good storage area, free of (most) bugs, dust, rain, etc., and, who knows, someone on the side of the road might need this mill. I know several Guzzistas who can install an engine on the side of the highway with one hand tied behind their back
I'm going to donate this engine to my buddy who lives somewhere in the Ozarks. I intend to have it taken to AR by a friend whose family lives there. This will be the next time he visits home.
So, if any of you have spare frames, transmissions, carbs, throttle bodies, wheels, and any other stuff you'll never need or sell please consider letting the good Dr. Frankenstein put together a machine. Consider it a demonstration of what can be improvised when someone has the skill and the desire.
I'll even arrange to pick up and deliver various parts if possible. I like road trips!

Muley you are Knight among us peasants.

I don't have a lot of late tonti stuff, but I've got some nice windjammers, backrests, tail racks, tail boxes, etc that a guy could have for fr pickup or shipping only. Perfect for the deviant doctor in all of us! We generally ask that folks "buying" this way send luap a little something for giving us the venue to hook up.
There's an idea -- how about, if an answer here has solved your problem, you've found a bike or part via WG, or maybe discoverered a new route chatting with others here -- you click the "donate" button and help pay the rent? EVERYBODY will thank you for it!

When I said I liked road trips I really wasn't thinking about driving up to Alaska, but don't put me past it  Yep, I can probably swing a small donation from time to time until my "pecan money" runs out
I just like to help out folks who don't have the financial resources to simply call Harpers or MG Cycle and place an order. Wait a minute, that sounds just like me
If you or anyone has a part that might could be used in whatever the Doc has in mind just post it here, we'll see about shipping and take it from there. I'll pay for the shipping to some central or convenient location (probably my front door) and when enough stuff is collected I'll round up a dog or two and head for the Ozarks. Oh yes, the dogs love a good road trip.

Muley , ya gotta come around more often , RK is at the Texas Turnip Farmer's place in East TX

Muley -- I wasn't specifying that YOU should think about a donation. I was just injecting a general promotion for the website.
And as Dusty says, I'm in TX helping Tex sort out a couple dozen bikes he's got lying around, some so old they only photograph in black and white. But we do have universal and accessory-level stuff that could be had for the cost of a visit. So far no takers, so our selection is as good as it will ever be. Drop on by the Oleo Ranch!
-
looks like we have a motor and "matching" frame so far plus some miscellaneous bits and pieces.
A transmission and a couple wheels would sure be nice
-
bump!
-
A February 3 trip to the turnip farm might be in the offing. The ride out will be much "faster" than the ride home
What kind of BBQ do y'all prefer?

You don't get to vote if you're not coming. :whip2:
K
en says anything but tofu and domestic cat. Beaver says nothing slathered in coleslaw and vinegar. Me, I'm Alaskan. I'm not the one to ask.
-
What a great idea ! I like the thought behind it as well, sorta like the bastard son of the forum. Really good gesture if I'm reading you right. RK has jolted me into action also, gonna make a donation.
-
Ifin I could Id be there! Im all in for bbq! Got my barrel in the front yard! holds 25 pounds of yard bird! :food:
-
I am seriously ignorant of bbq. I was foolish enough to use that word and "grill" in the same sentence, and darn near lost my voting rights! All I know is that it should be very tender, have a sauce where the vinegar doesn't gag me, sweet is good, and not be dry. My advice to folks bringing bbq is to bring your favorite critter done up in the way that made you world famous on your block. More than one kind wouldn't be a bad thing.
There were 8 gumbos at the swampscooters. I'd never had gumbo, but I ranked them the same way the judging went. So while I might not know bbq, I know good when I taste it.
BTW -- so far, with one exception, nobody is coming on a bike.
-
Well, damn don't make us feel bad. We'd all come on a bike iffin we could figure out how to haul a frame and EV engine. None of us have a sidecar that I know of. However, I do have a Lab carrier that would probably hold the engine, but it better be tied down real good.
As for the BBQ, I consider myself as having pretty good taste in the pork variety that actually tastes good  The best ever comes from NC in the town of Lexington. The slaw is red, the BBQ can be pulled or sliced, and the sauce is vinegar based and added to the meat by each patron. The meat is not ruined by being drowned in tomatoey junk.
However, since I can't swing by NC on this trip, we'll just have to suffer Fresh Air BBQ cooked up right here in middle GA.
What in the world are we doing bringing BBQ to Texas. Texas has some semi-edible BBQ if memory serves :azn:
-
Hope you boys like armadillo
Dusty
-
When I dispose of every armadillo I see, it's usually with a hollow point and not much is left to BBQ or even make a stew out of.
-
Armadillo seems to be the official Texas state speedbump.

That all sounds interesting, I've been here since November and haven't seen two b's and a q together the entire time. (note to moderators -- that is NOT political code. )
The driving v riding reference is to help folks feel welcome to join regardless of transportation type. It's sort of an impromptu NAB/NAR. Seriously -- bring your bedroll, on account of it's a small house, and BBQ on account of see above. Tex says he'll make the beans and throw in a 6-pack of some Texas beer. Besides, he wants to sell/move stuff out of here. How can you load three frame-mount fairings and an untitled loop frame on a V11?
-
I've sent messages to my three potential accomplices. I'll make this trip solo if I have to. I regret that I'll have to freeze the GA BBQ, that is, except the generous portion I'll reserve for sustenance on the ride.
BTW, I have room for four adults, a couple dogs, a good number of parts, several firearms, maybe that'll sneak by, four night's worth of cigars and some rendered corn. So if a seat is empty and you reside along I-20 just tell me where to pick you up.
-
Did you mention that your major accomplice is Wayne Orwig? Or is that a secret?
-
Hope you boys like armadillo

Absolutely not a secret. We want to get Wayne "out of the house", but there are complications right now on his end. This thing might not be a go or no go until the last minute, but we can hope for the best.
-
We're all pulling for him on this end. Tex pulled 38pcs of hard bags, tail bags, and fairings out of the barn today. I pulled a fuel pump.
-
Bring Lannis. PLEASE, pretty please, tell him not to wear his skinny jeans.

Tex
Well, I guess the booty shorts are out too, then. Shame, that would have been something new for Texas ....
Seriously though, if there's anything I can do to help, I will.

Lannis and Russ in the same truck... No I don't think I can handle that!
I had to actuate closed captioning on the tube since (1) I'm getting progressively weaker in the hearing dept. and (2) Our 2 and 4 year old grandchildren are here way too much
I see the caption "scoffs" many times on many shows accompanied by a scoffing sound.
I'm scoffing now :blank:
-
yeah i understand the hearing issue, connies been turning up the tv alot lately. or maybe shes trying to drown me out...I came up with some parts today, harley soft tail seat. honda 750 seat and a boat seat...got some shocks no idea what they came off lol. but a Moto Guzzi will be built.
-
We've reserved our very best King/Queen seat by Drag Specialties for the project.
-
Waiting to hear from Wayne re. his new job. I only have to move the EV engine from my Suburban to the pickup, order and pickup the BBQ, and throw a bag in the truck. I hope we can pull this off :thumb:
-
My mother always said if you put your mind to anything you can do it.
-
Are there any specific needs for this Frankenstein bike?
I'm a bit out of your way, but might be able to bring stuff to Cedar Vale.

It looks like we have an engine, frame, seat and miscellaneous other parts. I think a transmission and wheels would definitely be helpful. Our builder will have to decide if the engine should be fuel injected or carbureted. I don't even know if conversion is possible. In fact, if I could build a bike myself I'd probably do it. :embarrassed:
Wayne cannot make the trip this weekend which was a big part of this whole adventure. I am still ready to deliver my engine to Arkansas and take some decent BBQ to Lindale. Who knows, this still might happen as scheduled, but I believe it will be best if we let Wayne decide when he can make the trip. I'll be prepared to take time off work with very little advance notice.

Perfect for this "application"

Don't wait for me Muley. I have too much drama going on to get away.
-
Dr frankie thinks carbs...I want to run it without a computer. like ive said im a luddite, with a big hammer! I can build manifolds! aint to much metalurgy speaking i cant do! I got a torch, I got a welding mochine...need a trans and driveline! etc.
-
OK, the parts car is headed out early Wednesday morning with an engine and all of my EV parts I'll probably need as soon as they cross the Mississippi  A friend is visiting family in Little Rock, thereby saving me a three day trip. He's stopping in north Alabama for another load of stuff including a frame. Our Dr. Frankenstein will be flush with body parts just in time for the next big electrical storm in NW Arkansas.
If anyone wants to clean out their shed like I did, now's your chance to contribute to science.

Gotta love it. I like seeing builds and this one sounds like a real doozy.  The :food:  doesn't sound too bad either.

Does this run include the oleo ranch? We're getting a crash & burn collection ready to post in the classifieds, but Ken would like to give the project some stuff. Once the C&B post expires, so does access to the parts. We understand that you won't be on the run.
-
having a son with autism really keeps me from traveling much. after i get everything here im going to figure what i need to have a Moto Guzzi. Im going to put this honda up for trade/sell to get parts...

Not crossing the Red River this time, just the Mississippi
I think the Lindale run will happen eventually, that is, when I convince a certain someone to be copilot. But please accept my sincere thanks for the invitation and the offer of parts for this project.

just heard from Muley, Santa Clause has left Georgia, Got a stop in Alabama, then up to Arkansas by night fall. Now to find the rest! there will be a build thread as i hunt and find parts, need a transmission, rear drive etc. ill make a list and check it twice... :clock:  thats Dr Frankeinsten!

Thanks for the pictures!
That's starting to look like a real motorcycle. Ought to be able to log some serious miles on that ...
Does caring for your son allow for any time to get out and clear the cobwebs and ride for a day or two?
