I think I have been bitten by V11 Le Mans bug..
« on: July 31, 2022, 10:50:48 AM »
Experts,

I thought I would ask here for guidance/tips/ideas etc..

I do not have much experience in selling, and I have only experience in local private buying.
I want to buy V11 Le Mans ( prefer local ), appreciate any tips/ideas etc..

Please help me sell my R1100RT and Zx12R ( or possibly Breva 750 ?) -- and help me buy a V11 Le Mans.

Basically I have three bikes currently, and want to have two bikes ( one of which has to be V11 Le Mans, which I have yet to find/buy )

I did put R1100RT for sale online, but did not get success so far.
And have found one/two out of state V11 Le Mans for sale, but it is difficult for me to find time/effort/not experienced in long distance purchase.

Will appreciate any help..Thanks.
My Bikes:

2006 Kawasaki ZX12R
2012(?) Grisso 1200 SE <- (thinking of selling)

Hi MG750. Get thee to the V11lemans forum. There are some V11s for sale on the MGNOC classified, but they may be out of your geographical area. There is a nice V11 at Pro Italia Motorcycles in Glendale in SoCal that you can see if you look up their website. On the V11lemans forum there may be an upstanding gentleman in Oakland selling one, and a few more, but you will have to check that  site.
They are great bikes, the gold standard of the spine frame run of Moto Guzzis. A great lineage going from Dr. John Wittner to maestro Luciano Marabese. My go-to bike in so many ways. Such a great motor and platform.

The Mighty Scura was my all time favorite bike. The V11 Sport is the last *real* Guzzi    before Aprillia, Piaggio, etc. Sadly, I've aged out of it, and downsized.

Being curious, I did a search on CL for R1100RT, and I think I found your ad!  Blue one with 64K miles?

If so, a few thoughts:
- show some pictures with the bags on (I know in the text you mention they are included)  And top case?
- that price seems excellent!  Seems someone would quickly buy it for that price
- what is going on with the mirrors?  Have you looked at getting the normal "hand wind blocking" mirrors back on the bike?
- no pictures of the left side of the bike?
- maybe a fairly close up picture showing the right & left cylinder heads (that have zero crash or drop damage)?
- maybe mention the range ... like "will go between 225-250 miles per tank" ... figure a touring rider is your market to buy it

But overall, it looks great, great price, reasonable BMW mileage ... seems like should be an easy bike to sell.

If you are going to buy any bike within that series I'd recommend the ones with the Ohlins suspension, I had the above and it was a very trouble free bike and handle quite well with that suspension. Keep on the look out for bubbling tanks, the Nero and Corsa have decals instead of paint which are probably near impossible to find if you need to fix a problem. Sorry I sold my Corsa, it is a pretty bike.

Mine had the bags and the Mistral titanium mufflers. Those mufflers sounded great but they easily dented by just looking at them.

I must totally agree with Blackcat.

Yes, go with the Ohlins suspension, you will not be disappointed.

Mistral titanium mufflers are great sounding, and you do need to be careful.

I'll pile on.  I've had two V11 sports with Ohlins. They don't bring *that* much more money than the standard suspension bikes, and are better handlers.

One issue is the bikes with the ITI speedometers, the gears go south and there goes the odometer. Greg Field fixed mine and there may be an archived thread on WG discussing how to fix or you can go with an exterior driven odometer.

Mine is an ‘01red frame. Did not come with Ohlins. But I put an Ohlins shock off of a Scura on it, and put in some Race Tech fork springs. On a set of Michelin Road 5’s she’s a joy to ride, much better than before the shock and springs upgrade. And it’s a red frame with a bit different geometry than the later Ohlins bikes. I did add the missing frame to gearbox brace, so while it doesn’t have the extra bracing of the later black frame, there is some added structure than before. A very lively and responsive bike, but pleasant and stabile to ride. I took off the nasty leaking steering damper, and she’s solid as a rock riding at 95-100 mph. Which ever variation you end up you can sort it to satisfy your desires.

I/we redesigned the shift spring a few years ago. Scud on the V11S forum has them. As far as I know, none have broken since. Guzzi's engineering is normally solid, but Luigi must have been promoted to design on that project.

The relay problem has been solved, too. Testing has shown that (depending on year) some work harder than others and need a "better" relay.
Have a V11S? You need to go to the forum.

You got that right (lol)!  Mine has bar risers adjusted back & up to the max that cables & lines will allow.

I'm good for 45minutes to an hour before I have to get off to give my neck & wrists a break and allow blood to flow back into my groin.  I suppose if I were 5'10"+ instead of 5'8"  it would be more tolerable.  Yeah, it's a reach for me from the seat to the bars.

I had 2” risers and it was better on my back for touring than my Bassa.

I was pretty comfortable on both..The neck thing didn’t bother me. Oh, I’m 5’10”

I went through this when I was a young lad in my late 50/early 60s. I thought I was in pretty good shape, but decided to get a cruiser because of wrist and neck pain on "sporty" bikes. Hated it. A personal trainer said my core strength sucked, and he would get me back on sport bikes in 6 weeks. After nearly killing me  he did, and I haven't had an issue with that since. I've done long days on the Mighty Scura and Rosso.. no problem. Once you build those core muscles, you take the weight off your wrists and don't have to lean as much, which helps your neck.
The AeroLario has a pretty dedicated riding position, too..so far so good, and I'm 5'8" also.

Hi Chuck,

Yeah back in '07 I spent all day on that bike and about 450 miles and was fine...so much so that I told zoom_zoom if he ever decides to part with it I'd be interested.  In 2015 he offered it up and I bought but didn't get it roadworthy until a year or so ago.

Anyway back to your point about building core muscle, I tend to agree somewhat.  My LMIV was torture at first but as time went on I got more used to it (core strength and all)and found it to be acceptable.  However, fast forward a decade plus and some age related stuff (muscle loss, arthritis, meds, etc.) it is definitely getting more physically challenging to ride my sport tourers for long periods of time vs. Eldo, Strom or Wing.  As long as I take a 5 minute break every hour or so on the Le Mans's I'll be fine especially since I'm not quite ready to part with them.  IDK, maybe this Winter when I have time on my hands I may try moving the V11's bars back further, re-route wiring & get longer hydraulics.

I imagine the Lario is set-up the same as the LMIV.

- I may have a potential buyer coming tomorrow, lets see how that goes..

Thanks.

I would want bar like yours. Eventually at least, if it does not come with bar raised at the time of purchase.

Yeah, don't let my complaining detour you in getting a V11 LeMans, I'm 70, have the usual old guy aches & pains but really enjoy riding that bike.  I don't see getting off every 45 minutes to one hour to stretch out as a big detraction or problem.  In the last couple of years I have begun participating in a structured BMW group ride on Wednesday mornings (I don't own a beemer by the way), the ride is typically 100-150 miles to the ride destination which is an ice cream or lunch venue.  We stop at a halfway point to hydrate, snack, potty, etc., the halfway point is about an hour to about an hour and a half into the ride.  If I ride my LeMans's, I look forward to the stop, if I'm on the Eldo, Wing or Wee it wouldn't matter whether we stop or not I can sit in those saddles all day.  Anyway, the bar risers on my LeMans really aid in my riding comfort level.  My bar risers:
