Nevada 750 cafè build

Hi!

I am Roar from Norway and this is my Cafe racer based on a 1996 Nevada 750 like this.

I have been working on this for around a year, it has been fun.
All wiring was stripped out and and run through an M-unit blue.
The nevada wheels are replaced with 18" Borrani VM replicas front and rear laced to the Nevada hubs. Tires are Avon Roadmaster.
Tarozzi rear sets and clip ons for a more sporty riding position.
The tank and side panels are from V35/V50, the "fastback" is home made in steel.
The rear lamp is Kellerman Bullet, bar end mirror and indicators are from Motogadget.
Silencers are Lafranconi Competizione.







The inspiration was the Fiat G91 of the Italian aerobatics team Frecce Tricolori.

I had seen your introductory post on the New Members thread and saw your list of bikes, and made a note to myself to ask about your "Nevada Cafe Project".

But here you are with the description and pictures before I could even get to it!

Thanks!   That's a really pretty build, and my opinion (not being a cruiser guy by nature) is that it's a huge improvement over standard.

(forgive me, Nevada owners and lovers, it's just that I've never found that model attractive. Funny thing, I think it's the Guzzi model I've most frequently seen in Italy)

The more I look at it the more I like it.

The flow of the shape of the tank through the seat and to the appropriately-proportioned tailpiece is perfect, and the paint job emphasizes it.   That line is the hardest thing to get right on a custom street-bike, and most people miss it by quite a bit.

I concur with previous posters!

Too often with these cafe builds, (and especially with the Guzzi ones) the "stripped down" concept is conflated with a modern industrial aesthetic. What you get is a shiny rat bike that may be technically pleasing but artistically lacking.

I would call your bike "period correct" - but better!

I have been wanting to do something similar, maybe a 1970's-ish bike from a post 1996 Suzuki DR 650.  I love the lines of the older gas tanks, but I am disappointed when I can look at a project bike and instantly recognize the gas tank.  "Nice bike, 76-78 RD 400 gas tank...... 76-79 XS 750 gas tanks, etc."

I think it takes away the "lingering eye factor" of the bike.

Since I am less familiar with the Eurpean brands, I am leaning towards a BMW or Moto Guzzi tank...... if I ever start this project.  that tank is perfect.  Great paint job also!!!

Excellent build, if I saw it on the street or at a rally I would be asking lots of questions, I would have never guessed it started out as a Nevada.

The illuminated buttons and female-voiced ready message are astonishing. Did you make the button housings?

That was on UGLY bike when you started with it.  Looks like one of those Japanese bikes from the 80's with the tipped up tank and the chopper-esque styling.

Thanks, Charlie. I thought of looking up the part numbers, but didn't. I wonder if being just that much smaller is what makes it look so good. I also wonder how it would work on a T3 frame, with a suitable adjustment to the seat.

Certainly one of the nicest Guzzi cafe projects I have seen.  And I think the small lock engine is ideal for this type of bike.  Well done!

this and Charlie's comment made me curious, according to always questionable internet specs, the T3 tank is 6.6 gallons, and the V50/V35 tank is 4.3 gallons, V65 tank is 4.2 gallons. 

That would explain the difference in visual impact.

Not only is it pretty, but it's my kind of ride.

If someone set this bike and a stock Nevada side by side and said "OK Lannis, your assignment is to ride this bike to Texas and bike, pick one" I'd pick the cafe version.  I'd probably hole up during all day rain 'cause of no fenders, but otherwise ..... !
