Layshaft Nut Replacement 5 Speeder

Anybody know the diameter and thread size of it?

I was surprised that on the wrong side of the pond here, these nuts are getting harder to get hold of. Both Gutsibits and Stein Dinse do not have them in stock.

I've ordered one from HMB in Germany but I'm getting sod all communication from him so I just don't know if the thing is in the post or not and it's holding me up!!

So I was wondering about something else that might do and also perhaps running a dye down the shaft (might be possible might not) after having to grind off the old nut

Going to contact Mike Harper as well to see if he'll rush me a couple from Umerika, it'll cost me more in postage than the price of 2 or 3 nuts (I want some spares) but what can you do?

Oh just for clarification

Bike is an 1100 Sport ie and the part number is 14219310

Is this the queer, left hand thread stake nut from the front of the output shaft? They're still available surely?

I'll try your suggestions, much appreciated, I should have at least thought of Teo Lamers what a dullard I am.

Pete No, it's the common or garden stake nut that pulls up the layshaft and holds the worm drive & gearbox endcase in place

That's why I was so surprised that they were even remotely difficult to source, you need that nut if you crack the stake and that's gotta be reasonably common (or is it just me that has fists of ham and fingers of sausage?)

I had to remove the worm drive to get out a speedo drive thrust washer, the dreaded bottom one, actually I found 2 but that's by the by.

What a half assed piece of design that is, even knowing about perils of the washer dropping and so being super careful, I still managed to drop it into the worm drive
