Tonti-frame front end.

Yup...

I acquired this Ambo from a friend that had received it from the estate of a friend that had suddenly passed away.   The original owner had other motorcycles, another Guzzi, a CX100 as well that was sold.

Among the boxes of parts that came with the Ambo were some Tonti parts, not many however, an odd mixture of bits and pieces, a final drive, a bunch of mufflers...

The fellow that handed the Ambo to me did not know much about Guzzis, he is more of an off-road rider and sport touring Ducati guy.  He wanted to get the Guzzi up on two wheels and must have scrounged around to find the Tonti fork, I don't really know.

I have zero history of the engine so that will need a good going through as will the gearbox.  A fairly quick and concise inventory, more of a sorting of parts finds most of the essentials, controls, carbs, starter, generator,
frame parts, "Not gonna crash bars", tank and fenders, tool boxes.  No dash however, gauges are there.

This lack of good, usable stock components allows for me to interpret the Ambo the way I wish.

The build date is Dec 1970 which I presume to be a 1971 model.  I need to check out the actual model by the serial number.  Not certain whether it is a V700 or a 750 Ambassador.

More later.

Hello 'Rad -

Boy, does that stir memories. It's years and cc's different than my Eldo, but that gray primer and the general "under construction" look give me good flashbacks. Funny how you can feel what it would be like to ride it through an image like that.

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

It does, a real plus that the numbers match...  #21951.

I went to have a peek at the Loop List and as best as I can tell, this May be either a V700 or V7 Special according to the S/Ns listed there, if that is a gauge.

Looking at some of the bit included, the previous owner had started to gather parts for putting the Guzzi together.  I found a 4MM clutch hub however, the clutch plates have not yet been changed.

Fun to explore and try to figure out what needs to be done... oh, yeah, Everything...!

That's going to be a 750 Ambassador. V700 production ended in late '68 (at least for civilian models). V700s have four digit VINs, five means its an Ambo. I have lots of stuff, so let me know what you need and I'll see what I have of it. I have a dual-gauge dash for sure, but no speedo only ones.

OK, I need help with the "El Donti" reference. I googled and all I got was some strange video game on You Tube. What's up? Don't worry you I don't embarrass easily.

Al dente. It means “to the tooth.”  Means cooking pasta a little firm and not mushy.  I used to cook 300 pounds a day in an Italian restaurant and mushy was not good.

Copy that on the VIN, there is one odd thing about this number though, Build Date of DEC 1970 and the others in the same range are 1971 build.  Just a little out of step, odd I thought.

I will indeed let you know what I need after I do a really thorough inventory.

Thanks Charlie, I appreciate your input.

Sorry for the long winded Italian lesson. I missed the point of the question.  I think Charlie got it. I think most of us are upside down on our bikes, so I can’t fault anyone for saving a basket case.  The only real question is whether it is a model worth building to the owner.  I put all loop frame bikes in that category. I can’t wait to see this build.

I had a bunch of parts kicking around but I just donated them to Cliffrod's Corsa Record Bike project. I do have a sold battery tray I can send you for cost of shipping, I may have some other bits floating around if you need parts? Stock generator, pieces of a stock wiring harness, etc...  DM me if you want some pics or are interested. I have nice cleaned up media blasted heads and cylinders, they would need lining (chrome bores). I've also got valves and springs, pistons etc... Off a 1970 Ambo

yup, the Mayor's generous contribution is helping resurrect a second bare 1967 V700 frame into my Corsa Rosso Loop that's absorbing all of the oem pieces removed from my cafe project.  That frame will probably become home for the engine & trans from the Guzzi lawn tractor, especially after Charlie planted a seed about one of the 954 kits for that engine....

Thanks, again, Chad and congrats on your new Loop adventure, Rad.  I'll be watching.

Thanks Chad,
I think I recall seeing a stock battery tray in the pile-o-stuff as I was sorting it all out however, I am not certain, it was more of a hurry up and pull stuff away than an inventory when I got home with the Ambo.

I can get back to it in a day or so and let you know, kind offer, I appreciate you.

Best,
Rob

Hey Steve,
Those are Hydrangeas, right next to the now, nearly dormant Azaleas...  Those two bushes are alive with bee activity during the Summer, an audible hum all around them at the height of it.
