So, I pickled my 98 EV 15 years ago with 16000 miles and have recently brought it back to life. Cleaned everything including injectors. Runs great- almost like I had never let it sleep. The rear end seems kind of stiff even at the lowest settings but I can’t remember what it was like when new. The rubber/cork rebound bumpers rotted away . Do gas shocks degrade with age or is it a function of mileage? I don’t mind buying new Ikons but don’t know if they are needed. Opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Odd. They usually soften with age.
I got Ikons from MG Cycle. Happy with them.

Shocks wear out. The nitrogen leaks out, condensation puts water inside, the piston shaft gets pitted, and the seals wear. Most stock motorcycle shocks start feeling funky after just a few years. I replaced the Sachs shock on my ‘07 Vintage after ten years with Ikon 7610s. At the same time I put in Hyperpro springs and fresh oil in my forks. Much, much better.
