Huh ?

 Dusty

I forgot about you flat-landers.

On the handlebars.  Push with left hand when making a right hand turn.  Push with your right hand when making a left turn.

Want a quicker turn?  Lean into and fall in the turn.  While doing this and pull with the hand for the that turn.  Right hand turn.  Push with your left, pull with your right hand.  For a left, push with your right hand and pull with your left hand on the bars.  Way quicker than just leaning.

Weight shifting should be done with the head straight up and most of the lean from the waist down.  Push with your feet on the pegs for that side of the turn.

Practice in a parking lot then try it on the road w/your twisties.

He said that the steering was slow with the 18" wheel.  I dispute that and maybe the technique is not there.

On a 1st series LeMans w/clip ons the steering is slower w/a 18" front tire than a 16" front tire.     That's why I put a 16" tire on the front of my CX100.  :thumb:

Did something of the same years ago..I ended up placing 2 or 4 small shims under the fender brace to gain a bit more clearance on front fender.

My 87 LeMans came to me with an 18" front. 130x80 rear, 110x80 front.
It came to me with the stock aluminum fender mount with a fork brace mounted above it. Real ugly, and it had been that way since about 1990. I removed the stock mount and got the fender to mount to the brace. With the 100x90 front tire, it wanted to rub the front of the fender at speed. There was enough space at the bottom side of the fender I was able to 'adjust' its mounting to bring the rear in, which tilted the front up.

There's no width issue at all, the height was the only issue.

On my `87 LM IV I ran a 110/90-16 front tire and a 130/90 rear tire so I had more rear tire options and that made the speedometer accurate.

1 time I ran a 130/70-18 rear tire and that made you feel you were sitting in the bike instead of on it.   It was a bitch to mount the tire as it turned out the rim wasn't wide enough to do that.    That setup effected the handling of the bike.  It was rideable but it made the bike want to wander some in a straight line.

Wayne;

a timely thread for me !

getting close to replacing the 16" front on my Mark IV - currently it's a BT45 120/80, which I think is too wide, and was going to change to a 110 / 90. The Bridgestone is showing some feathering now too.

Which tyres in that size do you like - BT 45, Sports Demon, Conti, Avon or something else? I'm running a Pilot Activ on the rear, which I like, but can't get that in a suitable size for the front.

thanks

Hi Bazil
I have heard good things about the Continental tyres and they do have ContiGO in the 120/80 16 (standard MkIV size) and for the 130/80 18 rear.

Have a chat to your tyre guys about using a radial Conti attack rear, unfortunately not available in 16

BT45 are quite a good tyre, maybe a matched set would be the go?

Cheers
Jason

Bazil, BT45 tires run smaller than other tires both in OD and width even tho they claim to be the same size.  I ran a Dunlop GT501 which might not even be available any more tho mine is still good.  I've run unmatched tires many times and found them to work better together than when matched.

Thanks Guys. I'm thinking to try the Sport demon - anyone have any experience of those on the 16" wheel? The 110/90 is available locally and is even a couple of bucks cheaper than the BT45. Looks like the Dunlop GT501 is also available here, and cheaper again ( Guzzi content)
