Every shaft-drive bike I ever owned spec'd an 80-something-90 or an 85 grade or something really close to that - for the final drive. Then I got a V7 III and the owner's manual spec'd an 80W-140. Yes, 140.OK, now that I have this Cali 1400, it wants 80W-90 for the transmission and 80W-90 the final drive.I have four bottles of shaft drive oil with a picture of a Gold Wing on them. I don't care if it IS a Moto Guzzi. The transmission is getting 75W-90.
I find (after a lot of study) that the specification of the oil that belongs in my engine, transmission, and final drive has very little correlation with what kind of bikes I USED TO have, or what kind of picture is on the bottle of oil on my shelf (whether it be a Gold Wing, an airplane, or a Velo-Solex).I just look in the manual, find out what spec and weight of oil to use, and put that in my bike.Unfortunately, that doesn't give me the opportunity to start any interesting discussions on line, so maybe I'm missing out on something .... ?Lannis
I was trying to be funny, but (evidently) I'm not very good at it.
I was trying to be funny, but (evidently) I'm not very good at it.Another interesting tidbit - the 2017 V7 III owner's manual recommends Castrol; The 2017 Cali book recommends AGIP
I have NO problems finding 80-140, or 75-90... my issue is finding the damn 10-60.
Shipping is free (Guzzi content) if you get six 4 liter jugs..
I gotta find a Canadian supplier that ships free.
Buying oil at the dealer is INSANE. I found a NAPA on 50th in Edmonton that carried 10-60 in 4L jugs... but I don't live there anymore. :sad
This stuff is cheaperhahahahahahahahahah ahaaaa....
Can this conversation be narrowed down to as long as the gear oil is within the weight range and has MOLY its ok to use in my 1400 tourer??
I continue to find this *Problem* finding oil in the US baffling. I mean I live in a tiny town in rural NSW in Oz. My closest Regional Center is Queanbeyan 20km away and then the industrial suburb of Canberra called Fyshwick is 25km away.Despite being the National Capital, Canberra is really just a big country town with a population of <400,000 but I can walk in to just about any Wottalottacrap Auto type shop, (NAPA, Pep Boys, etc.) and they have an inexhaustible cascade of different oil types and weights on the shelf from a vast range of manufacturers! Why is it so hard in the most developed country in the world with a population that dwarfs ours! Its bonkers!!!Pete
Oil for Canadians!Corsa Meccanica in Greater Toronto is importing ENI from the USA. Give them a call if you're still looking for 10w-60, 85w-90, or 85w-140.The story I heard (unverified) is that ENI pulled out of the Canadian market for some reason. Although their industrial lubricants are still available through some distributors, the automotive/motorcycle oils are not. None of the industrial distributors I contacted had 10w-60.
