Is it fugly?
« on: May 25, 2018, 08:28:48 PM »
The ONLY thing I wish was available for the MGX is a tail trunk for touring purposes.

Since nothing of real capacity is available, I put together this Pelican style case. It's about 45 liters in size. I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, it will come in handy. On the other, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the look.

What say you?

Yep, it's fugly, but, there is beauty in its function.

I've got a pair of 25L Pelican cases attached to C-bow mounts so I can have lockable (with a padlock), truly water-proof hard bags on the 3 bikes that I have with C-bow mounts on them.
They're not pretty, but, they do what I want.

I love the red rocker covers on the MGX, Audace, and V7 Carbon.

:thumb: I think it's function over form in this case.  Besides you will be looking the other direction.  The rest of that bike is so nice that, that case won't detract at all.

You could make a big swoopy thing out of paper mache and attach it w/velcro to fit the look.

I have Pelican 1550's for my DR and DL650 and also a set of smaller HF knockoffs for the DR for when smaller cases are called for. They are a bit clunky looking but at the end of a day of riding in the rain whatever was in the cases is perfectly dry. I'll take that over looks anyway. As additional bonus's they are cost effective and really durable.

Or bungee net a case of PBR pounders to the top and head to a Guzzi rally.

Harley or an aftermarket supplier offers a low profile top case with the same lines as the regular one that looks pretty good.  Kind of pricey but it looks like you already have made up the mounting system so that would help on the cost.

Nah, actually it works.

It's completely separated from the styling, so doesn't detract from it as might something 'supposed to match'.
Something wistful and amusing, yet poignant.

Pelican cases are super products...water proof, lockable and in this case, black so it's color coded.

It could be worse if you put a milk crate on it, but then it would be fugly and Guzzi cheap...I think what you've got there at least works well even if not perfectly matching design wise to the rest of the batmoto...

You could put some Cedar Vale stickers on it to liven it up a bit perhaps!  :)

You asked.  Yes, it is.  Matters not.  However, it's now a quest to find the correct look, as your mission Mr. Phelps, should you choose to accept it.

How about using a backpack across the two hard bags? keep your essentials in it, then you can just take it with you when you park the bike.

That is a good attempt.  It is such a uniquely styled bike that nothing will match if it is not shaped like the bags and probably have a carbon fiber look.  TechSpec sells carbon fiber-looking tank knee pads that may help the look of the pelican.  Link: https://techspec-usa.com/

Sort of hipsterish, isn't it, so it matches the rider rather than the bike?
Actually I think the case looks nice, but I'd expect to see it on another bike...
