At long last, my little bargain basement CB1100 is a good ride for me over our good to not so good roads. My long time riding buddy, Tom, and I have chased after the fork issue over several months. Finally, with exceptional phone and email support from Race Tech technical support, the front end feels compliant. And with Ikon rear shocks with slightly lighter springs, the back and front seem matched.
And the best news may be ..... I'm finally appreciating the sound and low range torque of this particular 4 cylinder transverse engine. She whispers along in 6th gear at 2000 rpm, but is a little animal in 2nd with a lot of throttle. 2nd gear at 6000rpm = 60mph, and she gets there very quickly. Truly a no drama bike .... just sweet. Not your typical UJM high revving engine ... redline is at 8500 rpm.
And she's probably as retro as the Triumph Bonnevilles, but instead of the lovely Triumph twin exhaust note, what I hear is the lovely whine of a UJM inline 4.
Not a bad bike for a 3 year old leftover, purchased for $6995 in April of 2017.

There is nothing like the feeling of getting it right. Well done, Bob.

Hard to be satisfied with stock when one experiences what a well sorted bike actually feels like.

Congrats! A friend of mine had one, stock suspension was "OK" for the couple hours I rode it. I'm not an inline four fan, but, have to agree, that is a sweet motor.
Congrats on getting the suspension sorted and working well for you!

It is a sweet bike, and since I cut my teeth on a CB750 when I was 18 it brings back good memories when I ride it.

...and here is a beaut: https://columbus.craigslist.org/mcy/d/2014-honda-cb1100/6680171567.html low miles and a fairly reasonable price. Maybe I could hire myself out as a front suspension sorter on these puppies...

That is a nice one! Although there are new ones that can be found for 5995 plus tax and fees, this being a private owner sale will be much cheaper to register, at least in Illinois. Illinois tax for private sale motorcycles is only $25 regardless of the purchase price. One of the few advantages left for living in Illinois.

I think we've both learned a lot about tuning forks on CB1100's! At least those with Race Tech valves! I have to admit, that without Tom's help, I might easily have given up on the fork project.

Bob's experience and new found love for the CB even has me giving some passing thoughts that a CB1100 might be a nice bike to get...but that is just a passing thought though. Still drooling over the white '09 CalVin for sale in Iowa by TwoDogs...don't want to crowd the garage...

Ok I gotta step in here and offer up my stash of Guzzi decals/stickers to cover up these other brands you speak of.....

Cover my defenseless little Honda's badge with the mighty Guzzi eagle? Unfair, I say!
