Anyone know of a simple, non locking gas cap that will fit on the V7III? Something along the lines of this one from Lowbrow Customs in the attached pic. Thanks.

Thanks, that's a good possibility for sure. I'd like to find something even more basic if possible, ie, no retractable button. And would prefer a more matte metal finish. But I'll put this on the short list.

The V9 has a non locking cap.
For sure the 2017 model did.

Can I ask why you aren't happy with the locking cap?
It's easy to use when you figure out the proper way to use it, don't try unscrewing it with the key.

Good luck it's not a big 4, not much made for small brands. It may be the same as others out there.

True. As an example the V11 Sport fuel cap is replaceable by a cap assembly for a Aprilia RSV1000 and a Triumph model I can't remember off hand. So you can sometimes source an equivalent replacement on Ebay. My V11 Sport has a "value" ebay Chinese alloy screw cap assembly fitted. It's very nice actually.

That’s what I was thinking, that there must be some non-Guzzi options that would fit..

If anyone’s interested, I’ve been using for several weeks now this brass gas cap which I saved from my old triumph. It fits, and it’s vented, it seems to work perfectly fine. I thought at first that I wouldn’t like the brass with the metal tank but I’ve gotten used to it and am very happy with it!

FWIW, I bought a nice non-locking pop up metal one from a well known other site. When the tank was full it would spit gas through the vent hole. It also looked like crap on the V7III because the stock cap covers the tank fill cap welds. Guzzi did a crappy paint job on the tank there because it normally doesn't show.

call me nuts but I like that. Would it work in the V7 850?

If it has the same size opening as the V7 I imagine it would work. Here’s a link to the cap, at Lowbrow customs:

They also have a non-brass version.

Is the std V7 cap vented? Many/most modern motorcycles don't use a vented cap. The venting system is internal to the tank itself and ties in with the evap canister. Modifying a part of the system can introduce issues like the evap canister not purging itself and other running issues.

Have a look at one for a screw thread Triumph.
I know that the thread is the same as my mates T100 fits my V9

After reviewing the posts on this thread, I just recently came across this place in Bologna, Italy looking for a racing gas cap for a v7 tank, looks to be Shangri-la for v7 gas caps…enjoy.

Guzzi tech has one but it's vented so it will spit on your tank in the heat.

I bought a Motone Monza style flip top cap meant for a late Triumph. BAAK sells them as well under their Guzzi listings. It's been perfect for 14,000 miles and you won't drop it on your tank leaving a chip and dent. Best of all it looks RIGHT on an Italian bike.
