Sasquatch Jim
« on: December 08, 2021, 10:48:34 PM »
Hi, folks.

My hectic work schedule has caused my forum visits to be quite limited, recently, so I'm somewhat out of touch with what's happening.  I realized today that I hadn't seen anything from Sasquatch Jim for a while, and I wondered if I had just missed his posts.  I know that he was fighting cancer back in the Spring, so I searched for news and activity, and didn't see much other than that he hasn't been active since August.  :undecided:   Has anyone heard from Jim recently?

Thanks,
Shaun

I've looked, too. The last post I remembered was in the summer saying he thought he wouldn't be around much longer.
James Philyaw is his name. Good guy.
I think I found him in a search, but didn't want to pay the search engine $28 to find out for sure. (Guzzi content) Didn't find an obit..

Thanks, Chuck and Chuck.

It seems very likely that Jim has passed on, so I'll take this opportunity to fondly remember his contributions to the forum.  Over the years, I came to appreciate his unique sense of humour, and I always had great respect for his ability to entice beautiful ladies into joining him for motorcycle rides or maintenance.  Jim was definitely one of a kind, and he'll live on in the memories of those who knew him.

Cheers,
Shaun

Doesn't sound like him. I believe he was in the Coast Guard, not the Army.

Yes, he was a retired Coast Guard Chief, lived mostly in the NW US.

Came back to Illi noise when Hawaii became too expensive. Coldest winter we've had for a while. I *think* he headed out to Arizona..
First time I met him, I said, "Who is that giant dancing around the campfire playing the accordion?"  Illinois rally in the 90s.

If Jim has passed I hope he was surrounded by friends & family.

I never met Jim but we had one thing in common, and that was having visited one of the sleaziest stripper bars in Manhattan back in the late 70’s. His ship had docked in Brooklyn or NJ and he ended up in this place around the same time me and another friend would also visit this bar, mostly because it was a pretty bizarre experience. Made an impression on Jim because he knew the name after I mentioned it in some long ago thread.

Always enjoyed Jim’s stories, he will be missed.

He did a stint in the Army before his career in the Coast Guard.
