Gearbox shift spring won't stay flat?
« on: May 11, 2021, 09:00:03 AM »
The new shift spring I'm installing won't stay sitting down flat on the selector mechanism. though I can easily push it down with my pinkie .  It's as if I installed incorrectly, but it's not. I've tried it both ways. The other way is obviously wrong. (Wronger? )

I noticed that this new spring is wound the opposite way of the original. See the pic, new spring on the left.

Looking for some assurance that I can go ahead with the spring as is. It's an '83 SP1000.

As long as both of the prongs of the spring engage the eccentric screw, then it won't be a problem. The rear cover will hold it flat once assembled.
