Sold my Stelvio
« on: November 17, 2016, 04:58:15 AM »
Well, I never thought I'd say this, but I've decided to sell my Stelvio. When I bought it in 2012, I couldn't imagine any other motorcycle I'd rather own, and it's been that way for the last four years. But after a lot of soul searching, I've decided to trade it in. I've  gone ahead and bought the only other bike I'd rather own.

How did they treat you trade in wise since your Stelvio has flat tappets?Do you think the dealer will address that issue or pass it on to a new owner.

Thanks for the good wishes.

Actually, I made the decision a few months ago but I didn’t post anything because I wasn’t sure it would work out. The bike wasn’t on the floor at the dealer I wanted to work with, so they had to order it. The order was placed on 03.Sep. We expected a couple of weeks but that turned into two and a half months and I was starting to think it wouldn’t happen.

I assumed from all the posts on this topic that production of the 1200s had stopped at the beginning of this year. But according to the dealer, MG did another production run after the works holidays due to the high demand. The certificate of conformity required to register the vehicle is dated Mandello 11.Nov.2016. I don’t know if that means that’s the approximate production date or not, but I guess if they were all just sitting in a warehouse somewhere I would have got it earlier.

My dealer ordered another Stelvio a couple of days later for another customer and that order got cancelled. So I really think I may have got one of the last ones out of the factory. From January 2017 it will no longer be possible to get them registered as a new vehicle here in Europe because the EU4 emission regulations kick in.

So I’ve got all winter to farkle it with all the stuff I took off the old one. That’s the nice thing about getting a bike you already know!  :-)

I wonder how many Stelvios get the swing arm removed for greasing within the first few days of ownership? :-)
