But not motorized. My wife surprised me with a new Trek "Stache" mountain bike . For the past 20+ years I've been riding a 1996 Trek 970, at the time of manufacturing a close-to-top-end mountain bike, a genuine made-in-the-usa no-suspension steel-frame, but by now a dinosaur of a ride.
I was shocked at how much mountain bike (and, well, bike) technology has changed over my two decades of riding an increasing anachronism. The new Trek has a better front suspension than my Moto Guzzi! (Well, at least it is way more adjustable). And the tires are gigantic: 29", 3" wide, and they don't need inner tubes either! The seat goes up and down automatically at the press of a handlebar button; it's got hydraulic disk brakes; even the axles are solid, real axles now. And the frame tubes are no longer really "tubes" in the sense of a hollow constant-diameter round-profile piece of metal, but hydro formed aluminum assembled in (to me) a wild geometry.
It's a bit of a rip van winkle feeling. I guess I would have a similar reaction if I ever got a new Guzzi.
