Title: Fuel injector cover?
Post by: dilznik on June 05, 2015, 11:36:01 PM
Hi,

I've seen reference to fuel injector covers on AF1 and a few threads but I can't find on my bike where that should be.  Also, I tried to search for it but for some reason I'm not allowed to search.

I have a V7R.  Got it 10 days ago.  It's awesome.

Thanks.

I installed a set of those on a friends V7 , if you are referring to the aftermarket covers . How to search WG is explained by Luap in the stickies at the top of the page , but basically you need to use Google .

Where do they go?  Do they replace something existing or is it just something extra and flashy?  Can someone post a picture with a circle around it or something like that?

Thanks.

The front end attaches to the intake manifolds using an existing bolt , the rear attaches to a bracket on the frame . (I think) The bolts on the intake will require a hand held impact , as they are very tight . Be careful , the holes in the intakes go all the way through , Just a bit of flash in my opinion , no real purpose .

I'm not sure why you'd replace the stock one on the V7R as it's more attractive and presumably robust, than the rectangular, plastic, (and ugly chrome on 13 and maybe 14) Stone and Special models.

That's why I replaced mine on my Stone with the black metal ones from AF1.

I'll post a pic tomorrow if you would like...

That would be great since I'm still not seeing this on my R.

Here are the AF1 Injector/Throttle Body covers on my Stone. You can see them almost DEAD CENTER of the photo, black, with holes drilled in them, RIGHT behind the valve cover, just under the tank (right in front and below where you knees go).

On the stock Stone/Special bike those were cheap little rectangular, plasticized, chrome (or black depending on the year)

On a V7R they were much more attractive (and sturdy) to begin with (either black or bare aluminum depending on the year):

The Racer style covers were the type we installed on my friend's Stone .

I figured that out when you started talking about intake manifold bolts...you don't have to touch them on the Stone or AF1 type covers...unless of course you're removing the OEM ones from a V7R.

I've been hating the plasti-chrome ones on my V7 for some time now.

Safe to assume the aluminum ones from the V7R will fit a Stone or Special?

Also, does anyone have a line on where the black aluminum V7R covers can be had?  AF1 doesn't appear to stock them, and I can't find them online anywhere else, either.

I'm pretty sure the V7R covers were/are sold as an OEM accessory for the Special/Stone.

Why don't you check the Harper's website. If they don't have them listed as an accessory they will definitely have the part numbers in their OEM parts look-up and can order them for you if they don't have them in stock. Just make sure you've got the right year for black (don't know when that changed or if they were always the accessory ones in the first place).

Yes indeed, you are correct, they were listed on the accessory catalogue when the new V7s were first released.

Just shot them an email.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I thought the plastic "chrome" injection covers on my 2013 Stone were cheap trash so I first purchased a pair of covers as featured on the Racers. They're nice brushed aluminum and rather pretty but they don't actually cover the fuel injector assembly. They cover the intake manifold and will keep your knees from getting tangled in there but they neither hide nor protect the actual injectors. Still haven't made up my mind what to do with them.

So I purchased the larger stainless steel covers made by LGC, mostly because of the low price. However, upon receipt I have to say they aren't what I was looking for, either. They only mount in one place, at the top, so they can rotate and get in your way. These are seriously strong - I think you could probably stand on them - and a kneecap would lose big-time against these even in casual every-day contact. I haven't made a final decision on these either. I might be able to hammer on them and drill some holes and make them work but that's what it will take - significant work in order for them to prove satisfactory.

Now that I've seen what Kev M has on his pretty white Stone, I might seek out a pair of those. They look like they protect the injectors without being obtrusive.

Or I may just paint the yucky chrome plastic OEM covers and not worry about it too much.

I'm happy with them, though in interest of full disclosure IIRC they only mount with one bolt too...but maybe there was a tab or something to keep them from pivoting.

Just curious... what point do these serve? The covers on the Stone and Special cover the injectors, the cover on the racer doesn't... which tells me that there's zero purpose to them. Just a farkle?

My knees really aren't going to hit anything there anyway, but I get the impression they are to prevent one from putting pressure on the manifold and, similarly, if you hit them before you hit the injector, it would probably warn you away.

Not to mention I BELIEVE the manifold is composite now right? (not certain about that...but if it is well...)

Okay thanks for the info.  I got it now.  The ones on the Racer are definitely better.
