The Paso was drop dead gorgeous at the time it came out. It was a two wheeled Testarossa. ( Neither design has proved to be timeless.)

Here is my pic for the ugliest Duc:
Looks like a terrier pinching one off.

That white thing looks like a ton and a half of dead guts on the rear deck of a Japanese whaling ship...!

This ranks right up there for the "ugliest" title:

Get rid of the white walls and white seat (replace with a black one), and get rid of the rail around the back of the seat, and it really isn't a bad looking bike.

Oh, and it needs larger diameter wheels (18 or 17R/18F) with normal width rubber on them.

That Apollo is gorgeous for a '60s style cruiser.  Compare it to an Electra Glide.

The engine is a "mile" long, the gas tank too small, seat too long.

GT1000- those are good looking bikes. Classic duc. Anyone who doesn't like the lines of those bikes would be wrong. Put a polished AL tank with Ohilns all around...damn.
Diavel- the original wasn't great, but when you sat behind the bars and twisted the throttle with race Termi system- you didn't care.
X Diavel- they fixed the stuff that wasn't right and screwed up the riding position and put a drive belt on it (?)
Multistrada, the first one- woof.
Indiana- yea, pretty bad

Overall, Ducati has more drop dead gorgeous bikes than any other mfg.

The Ducati Paso, looks like they copied the looks of the Honda Hurricane circa 1989...Or was it the other way around, where Honda copied Ducati?
In my opinion, everything Ducati has built post the 1098 is ugly to some extent. Its just that there are different levels of ugly in their products, some are actually "mother in law ugly" !

The Paso was more or less a productionized Ducati DB1, which preceded the Paso and the CBR600F (or Hurricane in the US) into production by approximately two years, or a bit less.  The DB1 which was originally designed by Bimota for Cagiva, but at some point Cagiva decided to terminate the Bimota project and do it themselves by hiring Bimota’s ex-designer, Massimo Tamburini, and setting him up in a studio near his home - CRC or Cagiva Desearch Center. Tamburini then designed a less expensive to produce version to be called the Cagiva Paso, named after Renzo Pasolini.  Bimota, CRC and Pasolini were all in (or from) the same area of Italy, Rimini, far from either Cagiva or Ducati.  Ducati had little to do with it except for the engine however by the time Paso production started Cagiva had bought Ducati outright and also learned that the Ducati name had a lot more recognition than Cagiva outside Europe. So it became the Ducati Paso.

While all that was happening, Bimota finished the DB1 themselves and put into production in roughly late ‘85.  Honda copied the Bimota in ‘86, introducing their version a little after Cagiva/Ducati as a 1987 model.

The engine of the Apollo was built completely by Ducati...

Thanks Charlie. Ducati has made some nice looking engines (read Ducati Mk lll Diana ) but that Apollo engine is not one of them.

I'd go with less. the only thing they have in common is fully enclosed bodywork. The DB1 is a proper lightweight sportbike, while the Paso is a stumbling drunken rhinoceros by comparison.  I've had a 750 Paso, and own a 907ie. The 907 is a great sport tourer.

I have a friend who restored a DB1 for a customer. He had me sit on it. I am still amazed by how absolutely tiny the DB1 is. He had me sit on it so everyone could get a good laugh at the big guy on the little bike.

The DB1 is fantastic moto art, especially for small people.  It rescued Bimota from the brink of bankruptcy after Tamburini left and the place was falling apart.  I remember seeing a petite woman in race leathers on one in the 80s, the package was getting quite a bit of attention   It’s similar in size to the KB2 Laser that came a few years before. Both are tiny.

The original Paso was surely a rush job, the subsequent 907ie is a Paso with most of the bugs worked out and a better engine (the DB1 and Paso share the same underpowered engine except for rear head orientation)...  In that era Cagiva was moving pretty quickly, Tamburini did the 916 directly after the Paso.  What’s interesting to me about the Paso is that it was first bike he did for Cagiva, in an entirely new and dedicated facility, and over a very long time after that he did some of the nicest bikes every designed, much as he had for Bimota beforehand.  The last was apparently one of the MV Agusta triples, which are Cagivas really, with a purchased name on the tank.  That was another tradition that originated with the Paso.

It's a crying shame to do that to an alazzurra. I had a red 87 and wish I still had it. (Totaled).
I've contemplated getting another, but a  half faired 900 SS would make more sense.

Umm? nope, not putting cash down on that bet.
Orange and black? Isn't that HD turf? The badge on the primary cover also looks Harleyesque.
But I have to give one point for the creative repurposing of linoleum underlay used to shroud the carbs.

That's the electronic ignition badge, polished. The linoleum drops it down to an even lower level.

Im guessing whoever built that alazzurra has some REAL short legs!!Those pegs look pretty high, and forward!!!  A little down, and back would really open it up a lot...

A lot of things about Cagiva were Harley-esque in the 80s, see emblems below, so the paint is not entirely out of place...  ten years before this bike was built the factory was making orange and black HD badged race bikes

Aermacchi (which became Cagiva in 1978 and is now known as MV Agusta) built road racers along but during the first period of AMF/HD ownership they were badged as Harleys.  The bike shown in the video is an RR250 which was one of the last they built with HD badging.  It’s seriously cool bike.  The next built were the Cagiva badged GP bikes of the 80s.

Until recent years, Indiana held  that award.

Now, though, there are several in the current lineup that beat even the lowly Indiana.
