Battery for a Loop?
« on: March 27, 2023, 04:02:58 PM »
While getting the V700 sorted last fall  I bought a battery through amazon called a WEIZE - put it on a very slow trickle this winter  -- and now shows 10 volts today -- Really ***with batteries nowadays ?
Its way past 30 day return now so its junk. I dont really care anymore if I have to modify the terminals and hold down - anyone know of a good battery for the loop?

Tenders kill batteries, I have never needed the junk. They are OK if you use it for 1 day per month, not continuous.

I use 12V34-35 A/H AGM deep cell, been lasting 12yrs from a UPS type. I never have to charge them, one in ea running Guzzi
Here's the last one I got for my V700---------------------------------------

yes I should have been clearer - it was not continuous just once or twice a month along with all the other batteries ...
tnx for the link!

Weize seems to make only lithium batteries. If your weize is a lithium type, you killed it by constant trickle charging.

When you go to the website it appears they only sell Lithium -- but on amazon they sell AGM

Seems  you do have an AGM version.  You might be able to restore it.  Attach some lamp load and run it down to about 9volts.  Recharge.  Let it settle.  Drain again down to 9 and recharge.  Once fully charged, keep it off the charger.  See how long it holds a good number.  This will take a week of test and cycle.  Put it back on the charger the night before you plan to use it.  I saved a MotoBatt.

I have one that is Chinese. 2 are made in USA,  it makes a difference. I buy mine at a store, handled correctly, not abused.
Delivery is important, not thrown on the porch or in truck like Amazon.

Because its sitting on a shelf doesn't make it immune from mishandling. It had to get to the store somehow and I imagine it was shipped there and whatever it was packaged in was tossed of the truck like every other package that was offloaded that day.

Better than a trickle charger is to just disconnect the battery for the season.

My favorite is a battery for the 1st generation Mazda MX-5 Miata. I like the automotive posts, and the original hold down fits once two tabs are trimmed away.
Around here they're made by East Penn Mfg. (USA) and sold under the Deka and Marathon brand names. Average life is around 8 years.

My second choice is the ETX30L/YTX30L meant for 1450 cc Harleys. I again prefer Deka/Big Crank, but the "Chrome" brand available on Amazon has served several customers well.

I only use U1 size lawn & garden batteries if the customer expressly requests one, and then only a sealed, maintenance-free type (SLA).
