Winter ride in Colorado
« on: January 18, 2015, 06:06:57 PM »
We've had a January thaw -- it hasn't frozen at night since Thursday, so the roads are dry. Today was windy and the temperature hit 55F by 1pm so we rolled the bike out and made the 50-mile round-about loop to Carter Lake. The T ran flawlessly -- the rebuilt gearbox is now shifting smoothly and the engine is crisp and strong. The fairing is off to wire up the horns and signals.

This was our first outing with the Sena intercoms installed. One of the units didn't transmit and was replaced under warranty, but everything works now and I'm very pleased. Voice quality is great. Had some wind noise coming from Gail's helmet but I can fix that -- anyway, we were riding in gusty 30-knot winds so this is probably the worst turbulence we'll ever see.

World Alpine Ski Championships coming up in February so we probably won't ride again until March . . .  This was a great reminder that the fun doesn't end when the snow goes . . .

Oh, and I should add that we saw about a dozen other riders out enjoying the weather. Everyone waved, even the usual abstainers.

I was Rider #13 that you didn't see. High 40's when I wheeled my bike out of the garage, but rather than head north to Carter Lake, I went south and did the essential Sedalia / Palmer Lake route. Lots of bikes down that way, temps in the low-60's, same nasty gusty winds that you experienced. Returned home and tucked the bike back in for the winter with a fresh fill of 91 and Stabil. It was fun while it lasted!

We need to plan an early-April ride.

Double  ;-T ;-T on that!

Great to see that 850 back on the road again after the Big Flood.

I just knew there had to be a few out riding on that 60 degree day ...while I am laid up post knee surgery.  **C

By April (or before) I  should be OK to ride again so let's do plan something for us Denver/Boulder/Longmont Guzzistas.

We are obligated to spread some Guzzi spoor around for the "little people" to appreciate...

It was a red V7C. Sold it last year so I could add a few other bikes to the stable. You and I enjoyed a great ride over Trail Ridge Rd. / RMNP on those little Heron-head 750's. That was a fun day.

MGeezer -- Sorry to hear about the knee surgery. What did you have done and how long will you be out of action?

I had an ACL replaced about 10 years ago -- Injured in March, surgery in April, cycling in June, skiing in October.

Heal fast.
