I do my best to make Grattan every year, as the AHRMA races are a really great way to spend a weekend.

Come on Down! Having a few folks stop at my place before hand. Have room for a few more. I am a little over an hour from the track.

I planed my strategy, waited tell just the right moment, and got a GREEN light from my spouse to go have fun for Road America AHRMA races at Elkhart Lake WI!

Well, actually, I didn't really time it right, but it was close enough, I'm going to go cheer on Roscoe!  As I understand it Roscoe is a race bike that has been cobbled together from several various bits of Guzzis to make one mean mother of Pearl!  Roscoe now has a modern 8v motor, brand new high spec race cams, and a whole lot more fancy racer go fast stuff.   And this year, Guzzi does not have to compete against H2O Ducks, so the playing field should be much more neutral.  See you there, I'm going up Friday, AM.

And as if the races weren't enough, there is this!

The 12th annual Rockerbox Motofest is the premier Wisconsin motorcycle show and party featuring an eclectic mix of Euro, Japanese and American vintage café racers, choppers, sport bikes, racing machines, supermotos, scooters, and sidecars. All makes and models of bikes are welcome and you will find a mash of bikes competing for space alongside dealers and vendors of all things motorcycling. Rockerbox centers around a ride-in bike show and competition on Saturday with entrants from all over the country in competitive award classes showcasing the greatest in classic style, fresh customization and all that is unusual and incredible. Meanwhile, the grounds are packed with local and national vendors, live music, food, refreshments, a micro brew tasting, touring of the 4-mile road course, stunt shows, kart racing, and of course a slow speed evening sunset cruise of the road course. Friday, Saturday and Sunday the on-track activities feature vintage racing motorcycles from the 1920s to the early 70s and vintage superbikes from the 70s and 80s. The American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) is dedicated to preserving the heritage of racing motorcycles and promotes this heritage through events at legendary race circuits. Road America is a track favorite of competitive vintage riders because of its four-mile layout including, high-speed straights, multiple turns and undulating terrain. Several passing areas contribute to the competitive spirit and racing action.

Check out all the Rockerbox Event Info including Vendor, Swap, Sponsor, and Bike show details HERE.

I am camping about 30 miles from the track.  Going to meet Chris for a ride tomorrow and then truck the camper over to the track on Friday.  Going to head home next week.

Looking  forward to the vintage bikes and races. It's a first for me.

Hope to see you all there.  I'll have a grill and some Grappa.

Thanks to the WMGR for another *great* weekend. Took the Aero Lario in the van to the Kid's place at Lake Como, and we rode up after he got off work. A guy came and told us that registration was closed, yada yada, when another guy came up and said, "you with the Guzzi group?"  :thumb: 55 bux for all weekend.. such a deal. (Guzzi content)
Met some of the usual suspects and Lowryder at the campground at the carousel.
Got to ride the Lario for 3 laps at (ahem) blazing speeds.
More later when this Luddite manages to upload pix from his fone. I'm going into the 20th century kicking and screaming..

I too had a great weekend at the ARMHA races, thanks to the fine young men of the WMGR, and the boy with the racing team and Michigan Engineering.   Can't wait to do it next year!

PS, they will be racing at Gratten Raceway in MI next weekend.

had a great time.  took lots of photos.  the bikes were cool.  the racing seemed a little random.

Chuck and I got on the track.  He edged me by a nose (or vice versa).

Heading back home now.  Got all the way south Missouri border.

Yeah, we were neck and neck the whole three laps.
For you that have never been there, the track is huge. 4 1/2 miles, IIRC, and fast. Only a couple of places where you have to slow down much.
This is the entrance. Kids doing burn outs, standing on seats, and other silly stuff to the right, Rockerbox was to the left.

The Kid and Jim of Rose farm wrenching on the race Guzzi. DNF  :lipsrsealed: It's a Spot with a cammed Stelvio engine in front of a 5 speed..

You can get right up to the track here. I stuck my fone out, and a guy went by at about 180 probably a foot and a half away. Got my attention.  :boozing: Needless to say, I was too slow on the draw.

Michigan engineering put on a killer pasta and lots of home made stuff feed for the Guzzi guys and girls. Nice. These old beaters were sitting around, too..

Joe Ws Sport at the Rockerbox show..

Chris (ccoli) and John (LowRyter) had set up party central when Brad (the Kid) and I arrived. John handed me a kickstand plate and a beer.  Chris said, Ya hungry? I'll warm up some brats..
I knew this was going to be a good time.
Thanks to all, it was great.

Sorry I didn't say god bye to you all. I made the executive decision to leave Saturday night to avoid taking down wet tents. Sorry to hear about MI's DNF. The Guzzi Doctor bikes did pretty well, Eric and Celia Trosper took second on Saturday in the sidecar race. That BMW rig was unbelievable. My Sport took Editors Choice and Lee's T3 took Best Café.

Yeah, the wimps  left on Saturday evening. I was actually looking forward to riding in the rain. I've "downsized" 25 lbs, and bought a new Olympia jacket and Slider perf pants. Neither one has been in the rain. Not to mention, the Aero Lario hasn't either. I've moved new Dyna coils to a non stock location, and put in a relay to power them zip tied to a frame rail. Would it work in the rain?
Sunday dawned with a light sprinkle. Tore down camp and packed up before it started raining, and rain it would.  We (the Kid and I) had looked at the aviation weather app and could see how much and how fast it was moving. I said, "We can sit here under Chris's canopy for 3 hours and watch it rain, or ride west for 45 minutes and be out of it, what do you think? He said, "let's go." I missed by a little, we were in rain for an hour.
The Lario never missed a beat, and I was warm and dry.. :thumb: I love it when a plan comes together..
