I posted a link to a stock sump last weekend and on page 2 of this thread, buy it now of $29.95

You sure did. Doesn't list the 850T as fitting but I assume it does? There's also an 850T pan but it looks way different on the inside, it's plain.

Early 850t models didn't have an oil filter, latter models did.

So by getting this sump I'll gain an oil filter? Or my engine doesn't have all the internal plumbing and it will just be a pan with a bunch of extra stuff in it?

Since yours had a Bub sump on it, that means it is late enough to be oil filter equipped from the factory and has the required passages and front main bearing. If it wasn't an oil filter engine to begin with, then the Bub sump wouldn't have been on there.

Short answer, get the 1000 sump and stop asking so many questions?  :violent1:

Swoosh, I have a spacer that I would turn loose of for $50. I might have a sump pan as well. I would have to dig thru my pile. Regardless, you should come to our campout in Bruceport, Wa  the weekend of August 13,14,15.

I think I went to a Norton campout there about, oh, let's just say it was a long time ago. Not sure if I'll make it this time.

If you get a shallow pan, a spacer might be a good idea, and Bill's got the kit -- one stop shopping, even if you have to party to get it.  The deepness keeps the oil farther away from the crankshaft.  This helps crankcase pressure/venting/overflow/misting issues that we saw with shallow pans.  Later pans are deeper and don't have the issue as much.  That's why I suggested it earlier.

I suspect that the pressure issue is because ya'll haven't figured out how to make these things breathe right yet. I need to read up on some of your breather threads to know for sure.

Crankshafts into the oil are a bigger problem with highway speeds, which this bike has done plenty of. In my care (for however long that it) it probably won't see a significant amount. Too many offspring to tend to still.

Sooth, these bikes live above 4K rpm. A sump spacer reduces  cranks pressure and means it won't be blowing oil out the vent.

The spacer is Guzzi manna, pick it up and give Bill some karma points.

An engine tear down might be in order before spending big $$$ on parts. It'd be good to know where you're starting from. If your crank is gone (chrome kills) you've jumped feet first into a money pit.

I have rebuilt four non-filter / chrome cylinder engines, all needed a crank re-grind and main bearings. The one oil filter / chrome cylinder engine I have rebuilt did not need a crank regrind or new main bearings.

I have had better luck but maybe mileage on my bikes was lower. Rebuilt both a non-filter V700 and a filter 850T. Both had about 30K miles, both had been sitting a LONG time but in a fairly dry climate. Bores were very good on both with no evidence of flaking but I replaced them both knowing that they would have flaked off eventually. The T got a Gillardoni kit and the V700 got new Nikasil plating from Millenium because a Gillardoni kit was not available for the 700cc. Both cranks were perfect. Main bearings and big end bearings were also right in spec. Big end bearings got replaced on both.

Test fit these turn signals. A set of four were about $10. Also new flasher to handle the LEDs.

They also have running lights on the back side. We'll see how those turn out.

Fresh Avons

New battery installed. Now to sort out the wiring.

Those are good looking turn signals.

The PO had some Harley looking turn signals. I reused the brackets on the back but will come up with something more elegant.

The 850-T has been getting no love since the new girlfriend showed up in the garage...  But since there's a vintage show this weekend the old girl  :thewife: is getting dusted off and primped.

IMG_1314 by swooshdave, on Flickr

Heated grips went on in March. Perfect for the cool Spring and Fall days and evenings.

Also the faux V7 Sport fender.

IMG_1832 by swooshdave, on Flickr

Then the Lego switchgear. That was interesting as the wire colors took some time to sort. Greg Bender warned that the repop switches are shite and he's not far off. I lucked out and got a good one. Well, as good as they get. The only things that aren't working are the horn and headlight flash.

IMG_1822 by swooshdave, on Flickr

Working turn signals.

IMG_1827 by swooshdave, on Flickr

Half-arse wiring. I'll get around to cleaning it up later. Just needed something to get me to the show and back. Did I mention the old girl is getting neglected? The PO apparently had two colors of wire, black and red so the rear wiring will need to go and I'll sort it out proper like.

If it has chrome cylinders and it's been ridden regularly, they may still be OK.   It's when the bike sits too long that the chrome starts to flake off. No filter, change the motor oil every 1,500 miles.

You may not recall an earlier post. I stuck a camera into the cylinder and saw crosshatching. I still need to find a small magnet to confirm but from what I understand they did not cross hatch and then chrome.

My brother has these awesome auxiliary lights on his T3. They were made by Bates. I've only seen one other picture of them on the internet.

So to try to replicate them I found these LED lights. They are running and brake and while they aren't the brightest they do add to the light field. I have them wired but not mounted yet.
