But in any case, what is it ?

Now if it had been a Suono, I could have understood.

I’ve just experienced some of the best 3 days in my life and have had a very humbling experience spending time with one of my great Pals I’ve meet on this forum over the past 8+ years.
As far as that beast I rode yesterday…. All I can say is WOW!!!!
When I finally got the guts to open it WOT in 4th gear, if it had not been for the controlled ECU, that thing would have flipped over backwards!!!
I only tacked it up to around 10k and it redlines at 14K. Just hit the gear leaver with no clutch and you had better be holding on. I’ll admit to everyone here that I do not have the experience to do this thing any kind of justice!
Don’t get one Pete? It’s a killer, it would have only taken you 3 days to have ridden it across your country… but you wouldn’t have seen anything but blurred outback sites😂😂😂😂
I have a challenge for every member here.
Sometime in the near future, while you still can, pick one of the guys that you have made a friend on the board but have not had the privilege to meet in person, make an effort to do so. Don’t let the time and distance discourage you from doing so. It’s the best 2 thousand miles I’ve ever traveled.
The onlyest recommendation I would make is beware of the fresh fried clams……they are addictive (private joke)

I'll certainly consider the suggestion of looking up a virtual friend for a REAL ride someday, but can someone please tell me what model Aprilia Ncdan is gushing over?
-
He needs to trade in his cruiser gear for a leather race suit and some proper boots and gloves or everyone will think he is a SQID.

I think it’s the one that wife’s buy for their husbands when they want the accidental death insurance policy payout 🤔😂👍

If I had that bike Dan I would run out of clean underwear in two weeks and then sell it. But it sure must sound wonderful.
-
Well it's still an Italian bike.
It's not like he's switched to a Harley electric bike. (I had someone tell me that "it's the future" "get on board or be left behind")

In 20 years time, it’ll be a brave man that laughs at that.

It’s not really mine 216, my buddy just let me ride it so I’d know what that kind of power feels like. I’m not exaggerating, for me it was unnerving to attempt to utilizing that much horsepower that I had never felt. However it was a great experience to just add to the rest of the great visit with my friend.

I think I may have just found a wee bit of pee on my Tuono seat.

Tuono Factory.
It's OK...It's Italian...and still part of the PIAGGIO family, yes! (Fast bike!!) :thumb:  :boozing:

The mark of an honest man!
"Wow! What a great bike..... I think I need to visit the men's room! Be right back!"
I always find it amusing when testers are doing comparisons and the bike with 175 HP is considered slow compared to the bike with 185 HP.
If you need something quicker Dan, a local buddy has a Yamaha TZ 750 and two YZR 500 Grand Prix bikes for sale. How to license them may be a problem.... Probably not that much quicker though. The TZ might be slower!

No but thanks for offering Sir Ed.
I’m pretty comfortable with my 70 something, HP bikes I’ve always had👍

They are such gorgeous bikes!

Are they the maintenance nightmare that conventional wisdom suggests ?

Lucian can answer that Pete as he is well versed on that subject 👍
-
If I had a bike like that I am pretty sure that :copcar: would see the end of my drivers license.

I’d like to do a follow up on this thread.
Wife and I enjoyed our visit in ME. So much with Lucian that I wanted to make this offer again to the members here.
We have a river cabin on the New River in ASHE CO. NC.
I have made this offer before and at this time like to make the offer again.
If any of you MG members want to ride the NC Smokey’s and would like to overnight with us, just give me a holler and we’ll see what we can make happen.
The only cost to you may be having to listen to me pick the banjo on the back deck😳
Again let me thank Dave and Ms Lisa, for putting up with my “southern boy” self for 3 days.
-
I'm glad you made the trip and had a good time Dan. The pleasure was all ours, and what could be better than having a Lisa around but having two! Glad you made it back home safe and sound and we'll do it again soon. :weiner:

To get back on this Huzo , the Tuono has been dead reliable so far but I'm early in the game with only 5,000 miles on the clock. There have been some reports of dropped exhaust valves . You really need to look after the clearances and keep the exhaust valves shimmed to the top of spec to ensure the best/longest seat contact to dissipate the heat generated . I checked mine at 3,500 miles and all are still at the top of the spec range. I will check them again at 6,000 even though the manual calls for every 12,500 miles. Many of the ones that failed were at the bottom of spec or at 0 so no surprise when things go bang. I did have a recall on the rear brake master cylinder which Aprilia took care of even after warranty. I don't expect any major issues as I don't put serious miles on the bike and tend to obsess over maintance. If it were to be my only road bike I would say to go with the last generation 2cyl. tuono with the rotax mill. many examples out there approaching 200,000 miles and still running strong. Over all, there are few catastrophic failure reports considering the number of units out there. I would chalk them up to poor or non existing servicing, as well as insufficient cooling from lugging around town on a race bred motor. The level of handling , performance and electronics package in these bikes really makes them a bargain for what Aprilia lists them for compared to some competitors. S1000r / v4 duc. KTM ect. I am considering taking a look at the new liquid cooled goose to replace it when they arrive as the Tuono is really a little too much useable power for the street. But you could say that about any liter bike .
So in short, no maintance nightmares .....yet( fingers crossed) :boozing:

At least you’re aware of the implications of neglect Lucian.
You’ll probably make a mockery of the horror stories that abound during campfire tutorials.
Take care mate.

I was on the Mighty Scura on The Snake on Mulholland, when I saw some headlights behind me. That is a pretty unusual thing, because the Mighty Scura at 5000rpm accelerates well indeed. Naturally, I waved him by and he disappeared in short order. He was getting off at the Rock Store, which was abandoned on a week day, and we sat on the steps and shot the breeze. He was a magazine tester on a Tuono, and said it was the fastest thing he'd ever ridden. Certainly left me for dead..
-
Danny, great sentiment on meeting other Guzzi riders. I've met 15-20 over the last 5
-6 years, and definitely found my tribe outside the military (tough to do).
The Touno is an amazing bike BTW.
