I tried to buy an inner tube today.
« on: May 28, 2015, 02:05:54 PM »
The valve stem from the inner tube on my Dolly(don't even go there) gave it up and I thought it would be easy to get a new 4.10X3.5 tube. After two big box stores and a couple of hardware stores and after a few seconds of considering the purchase of a new Dolly I decided to just go home and order one online. $8 bucks and free delivery from Amazon. I would have ordered one but not one employee seemed interested in that discussion. Next time I will just save the gas and let my fingers do the walking.

For that kind of thing it only makes sense - no one's going to carry those oddball equipment tube sizes in a store or be interested in ordering them for you.

I lost the nozzle from my 3-gallon backpack sprayer.   Impossible to buy in a store.   Not easy on line, but found one and it's $5.00 and free shipping, be here tomorrow.

Living in a rural area, more often than not, easier to order obscure items online and wait for UPS to show up.  And frankly, my time is too valuable to spend it driving (or calling) around to see if anyone carries something in stock.

Well, I could have purchased the whole tire, rim and tube but that didn't make sense. And they did sell tubes for little tires but not this little.

I bought a bag of dirt on sale at the tru-value over the weekend.  It was on sale.  Dirt.  Everybody needs some.   But when I went to the dirt shed they were out of stock.  Back at the counter, the salesperson had a hell of a time trying to figure out what to do.  His first reaction was to try troubleshooting the computer database.  Then he tried manually backing out the sales price, subtracting the sales tax, and refunding me about $1.50 less than I had just paid.  He explained that it was because of the tax.  I pointed out that the money being refunded should match the money I'd just paid.  That put him on permanent tilt.  He very patiently and soothingly did the math again -- much like he'd explain to a toddler that when you close your eyes the world does not cease to exist -- and plunked down the same short amount on the counter -- right on top of the notice saying that if they're out of stock on a sales item to issue a rain check, not a refund.

I went through trying to put a tube in a little dolly tire like that.  Finally got pissed off and bought a new tire on wheel.

Do you have a nearby Tractor Supply? That size is in stock at two of my local TSC stores.

Charley, I do but it isn't close and I already ordered it. Should have gone there first. Thanks.

I had no idea. See, just goes to show you how important it is to post these questions on WG before leaving the house.  ;)

Could you do a video of this tube change for us?  It could be entertaining.

I stopped at HF today because I had to buy a portable canopy in order to paint the Norton frame, etc. and they had the entire tire for $5 bucks. Oh well.
