2024 V7 Corsa
« on: January 02, 2024, 12:25:47 PM »
Eagerly awaiting the delivery of my '24 Corsa, hope to have it sometime this month (Jan).  Couple of quick questions about these 850cc V7s.  Would they benefit from a better vented rear drive?  I've read that the OEM one is subject to clogging, so I'm going back to my loop-frame Eldo days and thinking about installing a vented plug of some kind (i.e. banjo bolt, hose barb, inverted plug with a 2mm hole drilled thru it, etc)?  Also, if the OEM rear shocks are anything like the OEM shocks I had on my 2018 Triumph Street Twin, they're garbage, so newer rear shocks will be at the top of my short list of mods.  I've seen that the older V7 Racers had OEM Ohlins shocks, and was wondering if they'd work on a '24 V7?  I compared pics of a 2019 V7 Racer with Ohlins to a '24 V7 Corsa, and my initial guess is they "could" work, but the longer shock length of the Ohlins will raise the rear end of the Corsa?

I can't tell you about the rear drive, but can tell you that in my opinion, the V7 850 shocks are worlds better than what came on the V7-3. When I test rode a V7-3, I felt like new shocks would be one of the first mods, they just didn't feel good to me.  When I test rode the 850, I felt that I could live with the stock shocks and they actually felt plush.  That's just my opinion, you will have to see for yourself.

Agree with the above.  Worlds better.  Not that one couldn't do better, but acceptable as delivered.

Shocks on my 2023 V7-850 much better than my 2016 V7II

No issues with hub/transmission on either my V7II or V7-850.  I rode in 116F heat in Las Vegas circa 2017 and 100+ this year in New Mexico.

The 6 speed gearbox on the V7II did weep from the vent when filled to factory spec.

No issue on the V7-850.

I like to change fluids early, so the gearbox was drained and refilled (500cc) and the hub/transmission was drained and refilled (180cc) at 3084 miles.  Fluids were dirty enough to justify $20 of 75W140

I will chime in and also say that my V7-850 shocks are good enough that it doesn't cross my mind to replace them.  On my 2015 V7 I knew within 10 miles the shocks had to go.

I am looking forward to your posting up real world pictures of the Corsa!  I really like it!

Good to hear lots of folks don't have issues with the stock rear shocks, or with the rear vent drives overheating, that's encouraging.  When I get the bike and start riding it, I'll pay particular attention to those two areas.  First impressions are hard to shake, so we'll see how it holds up over some local roads that have become my little road test course.  I bought a set of engine guards, and a steering stabilizer with mounts so I can put it on the left fork leg and left engine guard.  That will be another project ready to go if the steering could use some help.  Can't think of anything else right now that I'd want to do to the bike, especially since I haven't ridden it yet, and it already comes with cool things like LED lighting, monoposto seat, bar-end mirrors, headlight fairing, etc.

When my V7-850 was set-up by the dealer, I asked for the rear shocks to be set at softest setting.
Works well for me solo (180#) or two-up (+150#).

Bike came with shock adjust tool, but have not used it.

Have you contacted AF1 or Cadre?

I got the official Guzzi bikini fairing for my V7III from Cadre.

Might just do that although it might be an expensive option for me as I'm in Ireland,

Check with Italy.  I have bought from Italy shipped to the states for what it would cost to buy in the states.

Here it is, 20 Feb, and still no Corsa.  I talked with the dealer about a week ago, and they're just as frustrated.  The latest info they were given is it should be on a slow boat from Italy next month, which means they should have it in April.  They already have the Ago reverse cone mufflers, airbox lid elimination kit, and the UPMAP tuner (basically a Stage 1 kit).  Now they just need a bike to install them on!  I'm having some engine issues with this (1981 Lancia Zagato), so it'll keep me busy until the bike gets here...

EDIT - I JUST READ in the NJMGNOC Forum (one of the members is trying to buy one from Jim Hamlin) that they are all in the Piaggio NA US warehouse in TX, but they can't be released because they are still pending EPA Cert (on the Euro 5 Plus bikes).

Nice Zagato.
I really like the “Le Mans” paint scheme.

How do they go about making the rear shocks “softer”.

I assume he's talking about reducing preload.

But I assume you know that and are waiting to make some point about physics and shock travel, maybe progressive rate springs vs straight rate springs etc.

Either that or it's a simple language barrier.

Wasn’t the furthest thing from my mind…
Also it’s not “some point”, it’s “the point”.

Looks like an internet rumor proved true.  My dealer said Guzzi (or Piaggio) told her the U.S. bikes are having issues with EPA certification, and won't be shipping bikes until Aug or Sep.  I gave some serious thought to getting a 2023 Special Edition that was in their inventory, discounted to $8200.  But looking again at the red and silver Corsa, as opposed to the all black Special Edition, I'm going to wait for the Corsa...

Are the mechanical specs for this red/silver Corsa, the same as other, 2024 V7 850’s, or is there more to the Corsa, than just the fairing and paint scheme?

That might be a bit much...maybe a red suede or Alcantara insert to replace the black one, with tri-colore stitching...

Don’t be surprised if you get a call tomorrow from the dealer saying it’s in.  I’ve had stuff like that happen with almost every new Guzzi I’ve bought.  The only predictable thing is they’re unpredictable.

Well, I've decided to get the 2023 V7 Special Edition that the dealer actually has in stock, with an $1800 discount.  This whole drama on the Corsa has just wore me out.  They already have the Agostini mufflers, airbox lid elimination kit, and the UPMAP gizmo for the tune, all we needed was the bike.  I'll be picking it up on the 19th.
