Added a V7 Stone to the Stable

Hey everyone,   

I just purchased a '14 V7 Stone this past March to keep my Yamaha R6 and Miata company and have been enjoying it ever since. Did the 600 mile break-in service a little while back and a few little modifications to clean up the looks a bit from stock. I replaced the turn signals with the European spec pieces and removed the USA license plate light in favor of the Euro tail light/license plate light combo. Also removed the rear grab handles and added a BMC air filter for good measure along with the chin fairing kit. I look forward to learning a few things from the forum. Where did you source the Euro turn signals ??

Great bike... Nice stablemate as well.  My white 2013 is a great mix of character, exhilaration, it's a pleasant ride, very forgiving.

What's different about the tail-light/license plate assembly? Just the lack of the lower piece with the plate light? Is there a light in the main housing for the plate?

Clear lens in the bottom of the tail light.  On US bikes, it's blacked out.

Well, that's DUMB. Why is Guzzi using 2 different light setups. Using a clear lens in the tail-light is a common method on other motorcycles in the US (Harley has done something like that on many of their models for decades).

Yep.  Must be some quirky DOT thing.  The license plate light that's used on the V7s is the same one that was used on the V11s.

The part has been in use for a long time on Guzzis.  16 model years, or so.

On the V11s, the tail light lens was also blacked out on the bottom, where on other makers' bikes, it was used for the license plate light.

It would seem like a pretty big savings in parts and labor to just use the clear lens at the bottom of the tail light lens for the license plate light, but that's not what Guzzi does.

My 1996 model Sport 1100 does use the clear lens on the bottom of the tail light to illuminate the license plate.

I got my turn signals and tail light piece straight from Italy but I'm sure there are other places to get them.

AFAIK, the clear lensed Euro signals are okay in the US if you have yellow bulbs.  You can get the lenses and bulbs from AF1.
