Probably the owner and his friends. The serious bidding will start in the last 20 minutes.  The owner is showing us his minimum.

I put in a bid around the $3000 mark.   Mostly so eBay would keep me informed of the bidding.  I couldn't pay over $10K for a used bike I didn't see, ride, and check out.

The cast wheels and front guard are correct.  This is a Europead looking Series 1 bike. Essentially the running gear of the LM1000 (inc the little discs for the ex 16" front).  The clocks are normally V50 monza style plastic binnacle though, this is the later clocks so looks to be right in that crossover. Probably around 90-91.

Kev

The parts book has a completely different number for the 1000S front fender than the one being sold. Is it possible that this one came that way from the factory? Sure.  And the V-7 Sport handlebars on this bike were not stock either.

What'll it do that a T3 won't do? Well.. uh...  :boozing:

Handle better (40 forks are miles better than the 35's), have more ground clearance and im guessing this is a big valve motor, with 40mm carbs. It will be faster, more revy and more fun to ride.

Going to $18K maybe?  Crazy.

Who are buying these in the $16K-$25K range?  Any guys on here?

I could part with $10K-$12K for a really nice one, but that's my $$$$ pain threshold ... which means I can't have one.

Well, it is essentially a LeMans 1000 with retro styling. GuzziBob's (RIP) had the medium valve engine with 36s.

That this was a "private" auction, which removes any chance how many different bidders there were, and given that the reserve was north of $17k, I would say that the final price is the result of shill (not real) bids, and that the seller is just trying to create a high perceived demand for this bike before listing it again.

He (or she) will say, "last winner backed out"/ "din't pay", "is a deadbeat", etc".

It will go up to something like $15, and the "winner" will be happy to pay that price, because, it is clear "worth" $17k, because that's what it bid to the first time.

Regarding the earlier discussion in this thread on alloy rims vs spokes--

On a Guzzi are the mags really heavier than the spokes? Even when excluding the tube in the mag? On BMW airheads, it was often said that the snowflakes and later alloy rims where lighter than the spoked rims.

I actually like the look of the mags on the 'low handle bar & Lemans tank' tonti bikes, and was hoping they would be lighter as well.

I knew this bike would not sell...

Bottom-line...what is the "true" CMV (Current Market Value) for this motorcycle today?  $12K?  $15K? $17K? Other?
In the end, someone who wants one badly...and who has the money...will pay for it, regardless of the market comps.

I have a set of mags for my 1000S and they feel heavier than the wire rims. Never weighed them, so I can’t give you those numbers. Personally, I prefer the look of the wire rims over the mags but I picked up the mags with discs for a reasonable price on eBay a few years back with the thought of using them on longer trips out of town as they are obviously tubeless.

Wow. I never knew. That makes a lot of sense. It made me wonder why eBay doesn’t shut something like that down. But perhaps eBay doesn’t care. They make more when auctions are high.

There are only 2 things that are light on Guzzi's. Smallblock swingarms and resale value.

There is a black one on MGOC classified, and also a Le Mans SE. Can have two rare birds for less than a price of a green, I know it's not the green, but also keeps some green in your pocket which is probably a better place anyway. My pocket that is..  :azn:

I think Guzzi makes their alloy wheels out of some kind of lead alloy.

Some Aluminum things in Italy had Antimony in them when I lived in there in the 80's, not sure if that's the case with these wheels. Also, not 100% sure and I could be full of antimony myself here, but I remember taking an "Aluminum" intake to a metal shop (Not Guzzi, but Minarelli - Italian engines) to get it welded/modified for a performance part I was making, and it kept melting on the guy and he said it was because it was of an antimony alloy and that word stuck in my head forever. I remember it being little smoother and a tad darker in color than say raw aluminum.

Link to Alloys, the first is the mention of Antimony in Aluminum:

No, the owner got a higher offer and he was waiting for a deposit.  At $6,900.00 I would have bought it.
