They managed to wring a lot of $$$ out of that particular badass dishrag.
No one can decry Harley’s ability to pander to a human frailty, but now they’re sort of saying,
“Thanks for giving me all your money for that thing..
But now would you like one of these..?”
I do like the ad though, the message is “in your face” yet subtle and we all know the underlying precept is true.

Looks like it's filmed in Italy.

It is definitely filmed in Europe, because in some shots the road signs seems a little different by the used in Italy... or they are simply composed from a number of different locations.

And yes, in Italy you see some very beautiful location to ride!

adapt or go extinct.  i think this is a  good way for them to go.  but it is only a start.
the new bikes are still to pricey for many millenials with student loan debt.
on the other hand, at least in my area, the boomers are selling off their bikes and sportscars in droves so lots of nice, low milage harleys for under $5,000 right now and probably going to be more for several years.
nice, low mileage vettes for under $10,000.

I don't buy the millennial with student loan debt argument.  Smart millennials aren't buying cars or motorcycles new.  They are putting 10 percent of their new income into a 401k while paying down their student loan debt.  They are driving used vehicles until they have established themselves as property owners.  This is what my sons and their friends did.

When I graduated college with student loan debt I took care of my obligations and needs before i took care of my wants.  Bought my first house at 23 and rode a 10 year old motorcycle back and forth.

Today I work with millennials who are responsible members of society.  They made the right choices and kept their student debt to a minimum by working while going to school and getting into the Co-op program which helped them gain experience in their field as well as provide income to help keep their debt in check.

Millennials who are making poor choices are the ones struggling.  Millennials who don't have a strong work ethic are struggling.  Millenials who think they should have it all now are struggling.

One last thing.  Please point me to desirable corvettes that can be had for under $10,000.

Doesn't sound like lifestyle to me. Both commercials sound like its more about the ride experience and what it can do to you.

I did not mean to refer to all millennials.  However, in your first line, you say the ones you know are not buying new bikes now, I thought that was the point I was trying to make.  I stand by my assertion as you seem to also that they will not be driving new bike sales for some years to come.  I know many that are doing pretty well and many that are struggling.  as to the vettes, in my area, they pop up on facebook sale ads very often, usually the c4 versions and many with very low mileage.

To me your post read like the "victim mentality" that is being pushed today in society.  It is always someone else who is to blame for my problems.

You made it sound like they are not buying new bikes because of student loan debt.  That plays right into the AOC agenda of trying to get her student loans wiped clean.  Like they are owed an education from the taxpayers.

Responsible people aren't buying new bikes because they realize new bikes are a luxury item.  Not needed.  Investing in their future by going to college was a good thing unless they chose a major that requires a doctorate degree to make any real income.  Investing in their future by saving for a down payment on a starter home so they can build equity should be a priority.  Putting money in a 401k should be a priority.

Trying to blame student loans is what is getting under my skin.  I bought a new bike in 1986 after buying my house and getting married.  It was our second car.  I didn't buy another new motorcycle until 2007 and only did so because the dealer felt bad for selling the ebay bike out from under me and gave me a killer deal on a new bike.

Luxury items like new motorcycles should be the last thing people with debt should even be considering purchasing.

There is a reason C4s are inexpensive.

Vehicles are becoming an alternative that young people can live without.  Uber/Lyft and Bikeshare.com/Turo.com are ways to have transport without buying.  It's a great way without having to purchase a vehicle.

I think the ads are well made and Harley knows that they have to do something, but I see a lot of new Harley's in my neck of the woods mainly bought by the over 45 crowd and the naked and sport bikes bought by the younger crowd. I would consider a Harley if I could afford one. I said 'consider' as I like my Eldorado just fine and it cost a whole lot less and is a bike that you won't see on the road. That goes for the old Eldo's and the new one which I have.

Those same ads could have been made by any motorcycle manufacturer.  That is the difference compared to their old "rebel" campaigns.

two wheel:  don't get so angry about it.  It is a fact that money is a finite resource and it must be allocated.  If $800 per month is going to a student loan, then that is $800 per month that cannot be spent on something else such as a home, car or motorcycle.  Why bring politics into it?

Not sure why student loans were brought up in the first place.  Could have just said millennials have bills with higher priority than saving for a new motorcycle.  Those bills might include student debt, but also include rent, saving for a down payment on a house, paying for tattoos, name brand cell phones, starbucks, smokes, etc.

We all chose what debt we want to take on.  Student debt is the one debt that is in the news because people want to get that debt wiped clean.  They aren't talking about wiping out all the other types of debt people chose to take on.

You take on debt, you pay your debt down.  It is really that simple.  Now get off my porch and go get a real job.
