General Discussion / Re: Throttle Body Balancing
« Last post by Huzo on April 14, 2026, 11:12:17 PM »
Another update on this topic as I have been thinking a lot about it recently and finally got it sorted.

I have removed the air damper on the stepper inlet.
Then I altered the factory secret screw - not by turning the screw itself, but by loosing the bracket that holds the secret screw stop element and then by tightening it again and altering the throttle body in the closed position by about 0.2 - 0.3 degree less than before.  Problem sorted and the engine now idles at the right rpm cold or hot.
It means that the factory calibration could have been a little out of spec and the engine was getting too much air on idle.

Wow, what a difference an LED makes. The actual road test will be tomorrow evening. But, yea, these look they could actually help light my path.

LedPerf.com direct replacement led for the OEM halogen.

Guess which is which:

Both LEDs installed now:

I think I was right to go for the ‘easy’ win before changing the headlight bulbs. These driving lights were easy peasy. Two Phillips head screws at 5 and 7 along the bottom. Thankfully there wasn’t even a rubber gasket to mess with. The light assembly fits nice a tight into the housing. The housing does have a small drain hole just in front of the post mount.

Is it a ‘rule’ that the driving lights won’t function with the LED DRLs turned on? They only come on when the Low beam is on. I think the driving lights also turn off if the High beam is selected.

Update on my lighting upgrades. Tonight I took advantage of the warm weather (finally) and checked out my headlights in the darkness of early evening. The Osram LEDriving® HL EASY H7 LED Bulb in my high beam position is literally as bright as you would ever want. Simply blinding as attested to by my wife in an oncoming car! The Osram Night Breaker Laser for the low beam is an improvement over stock but still only a warm light leaving me wanting more brightness. Switching on the fog/driving lights helps a bit but simply provides a wider pattern of relatively warm and not too bright light. I think I am going to bight the bullet and order the Osram LEDriving® HL EASY H3 LED Bulb.  If it provides only 50% of the improvement I got on my high beam I will be very happy.  More to come on this but I do not look forward to opening up that headlight bucket again! :)  I may also go for LED's in the fog/driving lights as well...we'll see.

The dealership in Reno won't even bring a bike or two to the Nevada state camp out let alone support something like this.

My '26 Special also came with Road Classics. I only have  2K miles on it but I am very happy with them. They are the first Michelins I have had. I have always been partial to Avons. The Michelins have a lot of tread and even though my mileage is still low they seem to be wearing very well. The Sport Demons I have had on two bikes would have been almost a half used up by this point.

Neither do I, as it doesn’t sound like the fix that ive heard of on this board. But, owner says it works, and the starter only acts up when it’s cold out.

I wasn’t aware that they are hot, as it doesn’t have bodywork…who knew :thumb:

Trust me, I never figured it out.

Why were the Norge owners not bitching about temps when I didn't have a fairing but I was sweating in my shorts above maybe 75°F.

The B11 was unique in that it was the only CARC with the cat-con in the collector under the rider, so I replaced that with just a pipe, but it was not enough.

I remapped it, but that didn't change temps.

It was weird riding side by side with one of my Harleys and that rider was fine while I was sweating.

I sold it and changed to my current V7 Smallblock and it was such a relief from a heat standpoint.

Sure, anything CAN, but I was playing the odds.

OP - I don't like his solution to Startus Interruptus. But past that there aren't a lot of things to worry about on em. Plastic tank might deform a little. The dash failures are major because they are expensive.

Personally I found mine to be hot as hell in warm weather. It just didn't move air well around the rider. But it was a really solid bike to pound miles or attack curves.
