A Bonnie Robbie Burns Day
« on: January 26, 2022, 01:55:44 PM »
To all Scots and those who wish they were.

I'm sipping on a Good drink of Scotch (Famous Grouse) as I write this,  But I'll be having a drink of Good Scotch (The Macallan 12yo) later.

And no, I'll not be eating the Haggis for dinner.  Ever.

Cheers!

My wife and I both partook of Haggis last night and had a wee dram in the bards honour. (The indigestion got us though )

That haggis would be good with a side order of lutefisk.

I'll drink to that.  I'm sipping a little John Barr now since we've sold out of Teacher's here in the States.  I probably won't get the good stuff out tonight.  But I have little bit of The McCallan 12 year old in the cupboard and a few more.

whuups! Discovered, I'm a day late (it's the 26th!).  Guess I'll have to have double.   :boozing:

We grew up in deep respect and admiration of the Robert Burns (locally called Bobbie Burns) Statue in Barre, VT.  My grandfather and his father were Clan Gordon. both came from Aberdeen and spent their careers cutting granite in Barre many years before I apprenticed in Barre as a sculptor.  Lots of Scotts around there, even though most were quarrymen or finishers, not carvers or sculptors.   Robert Morrison, the King of Carvers, did carve in Barre for a while before returning to Aberdeen to carve in in his homeland Scotland

The Burns statue (carved by Covelli) and panels on base (carved by Corti) are the finest stone work in the city.  Period.  It's installed in Barre, VT in front of the old Spaulding High School (now the VT Historical Society) where my mother graduated. It is the benchmark to which every one who sculpts granite in our tradition aspires.

No Haggis here lately but was trying to explain Finnan Haddie to a friend who stopped by the studio on Tues.  Having to mail order it isn't the same as getting it at a local grocery store like up there in Barre.

Hey Pete!

Scotch is a drink.  I'm enjoying some now.

Scottish or Scot is your heritage.

Still have some Glenfiddich and Glayva should you venture out this way !  Peter
