Shock for V85
« on: January 28, 2022, 06:32:02 PM »
I called the dealer about a new rear shock for my V85, 1” shorter.  When I was at MoKan last year a Ace showed my  V85 with 1” shorter rear shock and the little gril that was riding it really like the handling.  Had slipped the front fork tubes on 1” also.  Is stair their were marks on the front tube, to adjust them.  I have put the lower seat and removed the rubber bumper on the under side of the seat.  I think with the 1” more.  I will really be happie with the coming riding year.Rudy

I don't know what Don told you about ordering a Guzzi shock but I think he can get a custom shock made here in OKC.

They rebuilt the shock on my V11 Sport but they were originally going to make a new one.  I'll admit that I don't know the company here.

I just thought I’d ask, because I have replaced the shock on my V85 to lower it about 25-30 mm.
It has the pre load wound right off and my centres  are 14” also.
I am surprised that yours is not longer.

I just walked out in the cold and put tape to the mounting holes.  That said the spring is loaded to the frist notch.  Don did say he would check with a friend, that builds shocks.  When I was at mo- kan. I checked on the cost of a shock made by the same co. That made the original shock., about $700.00.  Don think his will be cost less.Rudy

Hyperpro do a replacement spring to lower the shock by 25mm (1-inch). Not very expensive and should do the job. I'm sure they would ship to the US or there may be a distributor there.

On the T7 you just install longer dog bone links, I wonder if you can do that on the Guzzi?

There isn't a dog bone on the V85, it's eye to eye on one side.

At mo-kan some one suggested shorting the spring( after a few beers).  But that might be something to think about.Rudy

Drop the tubes three lines. That's all you can do without shorting the kickstand. There is a company making a adaptor to lower the shock an inch but I don't recall the name. Forks and seat bumpers did enough for me at 28" legs.

You know I had already though of kick stand.  The center stand is the one that I will enjoy cutting down.  It’s the one that is a son of a @#$& to get the bike on.Rudy

You need to raise the tubes, not drop them.
Also be mindful that the seat base goes very close to the battery with the bumpers removed.

You may encounter some complications shortening the centrestand due to the actuating arm, but depends on how much you chop off.
Remember when you put your bike on the centrestand on a hard flat surface, measure the distance that the rear wheel is clear of the surface and only take a THIRD of that amount off the stand.
I had to modify both my stands to buggery for my muffler job.

Mindful of your comment above Rudy, I thought I’d show you this method for putting your bike on the stand.

There’s no reason why yours shouldn’t be the same, even though both my stands are heavily altered.
