V7 850 transmission fluid change...

Went out to change the engine oil, transmission, and final drive oil on my '21 v7 850 special - the first time since I purchased it last year.  Engine and final drive were very easy.  Transmission was a fail.  I discovered that a socket would not fit on the drain plug due to the exhaust crossover pipe.  In fact, I'm wondering if the drain bolt will unscrew far enough to drop or if the crossover will prevent that.  ???   Since the socket wouldn't fit I then discovered that I didn't have a wrench large enough to fit AND the clearance to actually get the wrench in there looks dicey.  Obviously it would be a total non issue with the exhausts removed but that seems a bit OTT for transmission oil changing!

Any tips/tricks here that sort this out?  Thanks!

I just did mine on my 2026 V7 Sport. The clearance between the drain bolt and the catalytic convertor is minimal, but just enough. I used a 17mm ratcheting box wrench to loosen the bolt. Used a flexible funnel ( kinda like a bendable metal covered in plastidip) to guide the fluid into my drain pan.

I was able to unscrew the loosened bolt by hand. Also got it started by hand ( was tedious and took well more than one try) and then tightened it with the 17mm.

The drain bolt on my '21 V7 Special transmission (gearbox) is much bigger than 17mm.  MG must have changed it sometime after 2021!  Largest wrench I have is 19mm and it was too small.   I'll check with a caliper and purchase the correct wrench.

Yes, you have to go in from the side with an open end wrench.  From memory it might need to go in above the frame rail (?).  Not sure, I just remember there was something a bit funky like that.  But once you figure it out it's easy.

It's something like a 24mm... maybe a big adjustable can work. Go between the frame rails and the gearbox bottom from the right side just in front of the foot-peg. I think yours may have a small thimble filter behind the drain plug. Angle needle nose should extract it if it doesn't just fall out.
