Dellortos on an 1100
« on: March 15, 2024, 12:34:37 AM »
Those of you who converted from FI to 40mm Dells - what jets worked best for you? What sort of mileage could I expect on the road? I like going fast, but am not into drag-race starts or slowing/braking in turns.

Sporti or Cali?

My LM1000 is running is running 145's i think,  so Id start at around 150 and work your way down.   Are you going to try to keep/adapt the airbox?

It would probably be pretty good, assuming you set up carefully. I can easily get 50 MPG (Imperial) if I ride restrained, and the sporti is a more efficient engine.

This is a 1999 California 1100 fuel injected. I'll be making it over more like a 78 LeMans or 1000S.

As a Cali with the windshield, it's nice in the winter, but I find it's just no fun. I get no feeling of speed or sportiness. I guess that's good since I should take it easy in the winter - but...

And I'm not particularly fond of fuel injection and all the expensive junk it takes to make it work. Plus it doesn't get very good mileage - ok by the specs, but I know it can do better.  The simplicity of the earlier bikes is what I want. So there you have it - my reasons for mounting carbs. Just today I ordered a Tommaselli Daytona throttle from MG cycle - collecting parts for the eventual makeover. I've already got carbs.

Not sure about the airhox. We'll see how it works out.

Look up the specs for a 94-95 cali w/carbs, they had a kit with 266 adomizers, I used 268

36 or 40mm carbs? I run a 98 Cali engine in my Spiii with 36mm carbs.
Don't know what Jets are in there as I don't have that info where I am right now.
How about ignition? I run the stock Spiii Digiplex but had to also use the flywheel to match.

I've got some 40mm Dells, so why not? I see no reason 36s wouldn't work also.

Ignition? I don't know yet. You mentioned changing the flywheel - hadn't planned on doing that much, but mine has only the TDC marked and nothing else. I'll need to change that - either mark it myself or swap flywheels.

I would think either carb would be fine on an 1100 med valve motor.
Personally, I'm a fan of a hot Cali.

I did exactly this with PHM40s (except my 1100 cali motor is double plugged) will look up my jetting when I'm back in UK.

I haven't done anything with it yet - no mods to the ignition or fuel. I took the throttle bodies apart, adjusted them, and that's it. I haven't looked into what's involved with the ignition yet. Any advice or suggestions? I'll start saving up for it.

Right now I'm focusing on the floorboard to pegs conversion, and then some low bars. One step at a time.
