Title: Motorcycle films
Post by: 1stgarry on January 11, 2019, 10:29:41 AM
For many of us riding in the depths of winter isn't particularly pleasant, but watching biker movies is an alternative that helps to feed the obsession!!  I am curious about which ones other people watch, so what is your favourite?

There is a thread on this somewhere in the depths of the forum, there is a plethora of Youtubers out there too, so for an old fashioned film I suggest Stone, Youtube reviews Marlon in five years he's punched out the grand total of 7 videos although worth a watch if you havn't seen them, then have a hunt for a chap called Loz Blain maybe stick motorcycle review in your search terms if you want some Guzzi content Lamb Chop Rides is pretty good IMO.

Mad Max. The original. Argue all you want about how it's not a motorcycle movie, I'm sticking to it.

That was the only good Max movie.  Lots of wild kawasakis, crazy right-side-drive kars and people talking in funny accents.

Not a bad choice considering all the awful motorcycle movies.

Where were the killer birds?   :whip2:

The Electric Horseman had Moto Guzzi Cop bikes in it.  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079100/

I mostly watch youtube channels because I just can't sit around for 90 - 120 minutes watching a movie.

Dennis Hopper on the BillyBike defined cool.

Born Losers and The Wild One (kids wearing Holister T-shirts have no idea).

On Any Sunday.

Sigh.  Us 'Old School' riders are fading away.

Agreed.  But as a snapshot of the general perspective on the 'Biker' persona of the period, it is reasonably accurate.

Hopper fits that image better than Fonda IMHO.

Yeah ,like you weren't already perplexed

The point is that Hopper was a decent enough actor to convince everyone he was a motorbiker . When the Art of the Motorcycle was in NYC Hopper took some riding lessons so he could ride with a group of actors to the museum . Memory says he may have crashed .

Not a movie, a series: The Motorbike Show with Henry Cole

https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/tv-shows-and-video-channels/ (https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/tv-shows-and-video-channels/)

Henry Cole is one of those slightly eccentric, yet charming Brits who just happens to be mad about motorcycles. His show appears weekly on mainstream TV in the UK, however, in the USA, he is relatively unknown.
The Motorbike Show has Henry and friends restoring, showing, buying, and riding motorcycles of all ages and description—all presented in an engaging and humorous style.

sometimes lightweight, still enjoyable. The enthusiasm is infectious. Bonus!! Bike rebuilds contain no rattle-can black paint jobs, bobbed fenders or pipe wrap! Yay!

"Girl Meets Bike." (Guzzi content)   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkrexqIKmMs  Made by film students in Minnesota.

"Best Bar in America"   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qf3hWk9pzI   Indy film company in Montana

If you like vintage motorcycle racing, Isle of Man TT 1935, try to find "No Limit", with George Formby. I have a copy, but I was surprised to see it on TCM last month.  Also, "Twice Upon a Caravan", the around the world story of Robert Fulton, Jr on a Douglas around 1932. Lastly, "The Pace that Thrills" from 1952, scrambles, TT, hillclimbs and the Wall of Death, with Bill Williams, Robert Armstrong and John Hamilton.

A bit of both probably , seems the 3 guys were friends , and some of it was spontaneous , but parts of it were certainly scripted and maybe even rehearsed . It is just a fun , slightly silly romp .

I purchesed a copy of this..I like it.

I also recently watched Harley and the Davidsons on You Tube, not bad.

Favourite is between Mad Max (I grew up where most of it was filmed) and Stone.

Looking forward to this one(not because I'm that fond of most custom bikes but I am interested to meet the people behind them):

One of my favorite movies with a bike in it is 'Gumball Rally'.  Thought for sure it would have been mentioned by now.  For some reason it sticks in my head that it was a Kwak H-1 or H-2, but it's been decades since I saw that movie.  Still makes me chuckle when I think about parts of it, tho'....  ;^)
