It calls for GL5. You have GL5. Don't over think it.
Getting conflicting info on the interwebs. Ok to use API Gl 5 80/90 "Hypoid" gear oil in transmission? Manual calls for API Gl-5... Hypoid is supposedly for bevel gears like the rear drive. I have a quart of this oil and want to use it so not looking for suggestions of other oil as I can get non Hypoid at the store. Thanks!
I just went through this with my '77. On a tip from a pro transmission builder the nearest to original spec I found is Castrol 80/90 Limited Slip.Only been ridden 2 miles but seems smoother on the synchros to me. My 2cents.
Never thought of that one. It gets used in the rear diff of my Nissan Mistral. Lacks the super slippery stuff so that it doesn't wreck the plates in the diff. I wouldn't have thought it would apply in a dog type gearbox.
